SAMUT SAKON: A lone thief stole a Thai flag from a school before using it as a mask in robbing a nearby 7-11.

But the disguise did not fool Samut Sakon police who recognized the thief on CCTV and made a quick arrest.

Surasek Khreuamat, 24, was paraded for the press yesterday along with a phone and money stolen in the robbery from the Tha Chalorm branch of the convenience store - and the large Thai flag.

Salesgirl Kanyarat Aranthong told police that she had been sorting goods at the counter when a man brandishing a long knife and wearing a Thai flag came into the store.

"He said this is a hold up, give me all the cash, " she said. She said she had none and then he put the knife close to her face and threatened her again. She gave him her phone and about 4,200 from the till. He ran off.

Kanyarat and an assistant manager who was outside at the time quickly reported the incident to police who recognized the thief from CCTV footage. A check of his lodgings revealed the phone, some of the money and the flag.

Surasek, told police he was drunk and had stolen the flag from the school at Wat Chong Lom nearby before getting the knife and robbing the store. He needed money for his grandmother and drugs.

He had a previous offence for theft three years ago and was detained.

He should have gone for the trifecta and worn a stars 'n stripes T-shirt and a union jack pair of shorts.

Makes me wonder what style underwear he was wearing. coffee1.gif

Patriotic bunch the Thais as we all know,on another note I think no pointing is either because of the Thai flag or maybe a case of blatant racism by the BiB? whistling.gif
