webfact
Tourists: Call 1567 if you think your hotel might collapse.Image: ThairathBANGKOK: -- Tourists who suspect buildings are at risk have been urged to call 1567 after a hotel collapsed in Koh Chang killing a Thai woman visitor and injuring several others on Sunday.Hotel operators have been asked to check their buildings and visitors urged by the provincial administration to report buildings at risk to the Damrongtham watchdog who will inspect reported Thairath. This was announced as the Trat governor visited several injured people in hospital. The dead woman has been named as Miss Kachakorn Thammajak, 36. Relatives have now been informed. It has also emerged that two Chinese tourists had a very lucky escape. They were registered as guests but were not in the building at the time it fell down.Governor Chaina Iamsaeng visiting Trat hospital has called for a full investigation to be conducted by engineers and relevant police departments. He met with three victims: Pairot Wiriyarak,54, and his wife Walee Sunthornsan, 37, and their son Ree-ong, 3, who suffered a broken leg. All were out of danger with Walee suffering the worst injuries after her hip was crushed. She was allowed to join her son and husband after doctors treated her. Also in Bangkok Trat Hospital are Thattanat Wiriyabut, 39, with injuries to both feet and Joranee Pandorkmai, 34, who suffered a dislocated left arm and injuries to her lower back. Both are out of danger. Two young Chinese tourists were counting their luck - Mr Lin Hua Tao and Miss Wen Xu, both 26 were both out at the time. Tourist police helped them get to Trat bus station where they boarded transport to Bangkok. They will leave Thailand tomorrow. The hotel paid them an unspecified compensation for damaged items promising to send other property of theirs on to China later.Investigators are looking into the construction of the building and the state of the land it stood on. A small decorative section of water in front of the building that had been dug by the hotel and was usually partially filled with sea water, had completely filled up with rainwater. Initial investigations showed that the building had the necessary planning permission and had not had any extensions. The Trat provincial authority urged hotel operators to inspect their properties and tourists who suspect that buildings might be at risk should contact the government's Damrongtham center or use their hotline number to register concerns.Source: Thairath-- 2016-06-

colinneil
Are these clowns for real??? Now they want you to phone if you think your hotel will collapse Not everyone is a structural engineer. So when you think that the earth is moving (during an intimate moment) maybe it will be your hotel collapsing.

lostinisaan
The dead woman has been named as Miss Kachakorn Thammajak, 36. Relatives have now been informed. I'm afraid that these news are a little late for Miss Kachakorn. May she rest in peace. Why do always people have to die that certain changes will be made? How would an ordinary tourist know if the building is close to collapse? Another weird one.
WhizBang
Tourists: Call 1567 if you think your hotel might collapse. Seriously? This has to be an article from Not the Nation, right? You really could not make this stuff up.
jamesbrock
Is there a requirement for you to actually be booked into a hotel before you can report its potential to collapse? There are dozens of buildings perched precariously in the hills between Chaweng and Lamai on Samui that look like they could come down at any time... gandalf12
What a totally ludicrous statement for anyone to come out with. If the so called inspector got off their a**es and did their job instead of looking for short cuts these sort of occurrences would never happen. Again they want to pass everything onto the visitor. It is about time Thailand started to stand up and take responsibility for the incompetence that is prevalent here. It is always someone else's responsibility never the people who are paid to check these things. If Thailand does not have the people who are capable then hire some foreigners to do the job for them and whilst they are doing the job let the Thai's learn how to do it themselves. Meena999
A multiple level unfinished hotel stands in the Khon Kaen city it has been like it for several years, I have asked why has it not been finished and the answer I get is that the wrong size steel was used the steel is to small, how can this happen, the engineers should have done inspections a different stages when it was being built and before any concrete was poured. AMAZING THAILAND
NCC1701A
"Tourists: Call 1567 if you think your hotel might collapse" is there a number for the whole country collapsing? "Tourists: Call 1568 if you think your bus might crash" "Tourists: Call 1569 if you think your mini van might crash" "Tourists: Call 1570 if you think your boat might sink" "Tourists: Call 1571 if you think your head is about to be kicked in" what number does the dead woman's family call? RIP. Edited June 6, 2016 by NCC1701A

AMAZING THAILAND You like many people are making a massive mistake. You read the word Engineer and believe they are engineers. I can only think of 3 people in Thailand, there are less than 10, who are professionally registered engineers. The term engineer is too liberally used. Most of these so called engineers would be sacked if they worked in 7-

Caveat Emptor
Thailand, the comedy show that just keeps on giving. I'm heading out on a trip in a couple of days time so it looks like I'll have to pack a lot more than just clean Y-fronts so i can properly evaluate my hotel.
