Stuffed animals and skeletons discovered Friday inside the Tiger Temple in Kanchanaburi province.

KANCHANABURI — The hunt is on for the longtime abbot of the Tiger Temple after he vanished in the wake of raids which discovered evidence implicating the now shuttered tourist attraction in wildlife trafficking.

Monks at the Tiger Temple told officials abbot Phra Visuthisaradhera, aka Luangta Chan, left the complex May 29, one day before more than 1,000 officers and personnel arrived to seize its 137 tigers in a seven-day operation that led to the discovery of frozen tiger cubs, a hoard of other wildlife kept secretly and evidence suggesting commercial products were made there from endangered animals.

Again another <deleted>up by officials.

Giving criminals notice when they would be arriving.

Time for the Abbot to fly fly away.

In other news it had been reported his private quarters were decked out in tiger pelts, deer antlers and ground horn 'supplements'. This and a newly built 'temple hall' housing a Buddha statue really brings home the abhorrence of this animal trafficking centre. He should be punished severely for also 'bringing Buddhism into disrepute'. The world's Buddhists are looking on in embarrassment at what the Thais have presented as 'Buddhism'. It has also been mentioned he could be prosecuted under the CITES rules against wildlife trafficking. If the junta don't find and punish him, hopefully someone else will.

It is understood he may have ditched his saffron robes and may be travelling in disguise, police and port authorities should be on the look out for someone dressed like this:

How these people behave like children. They think that if they put their head in the sand, no-one will see them. Ostrich thinking.

Just like the other Abbot, Phra Dhammachayo, who thinks that by refusing to see the police, everything bad will just magically go away.

The worst of it is that the police and other authorities go along with all this BS and even seem to encourage it.

Astonishing.

Who is actually surprised he ran?

These ecclesiastical titles ... lol

I don't think the world's Buddhists are ashamed or embarrassed - they're probably quite aware of the things going on, and know that sometimes, what's broken can't be fixed.

It takes a small number of deviants to tarnish the rest, unfortunately.

Not too sure if this is so astonishing, but actually how things work here.......if he is found, then a support of his innocence will need to be formulated.....

you would think maybe, just maybe they would have forseen this happening, so sent in some undercover cops to nab him BEFORE he does a runner... really Thailand, about as intellectual as that stuffed tiger.

It was just an operation to move out the live tigers, everything else was found after the fact. Sono reason tohave arrested him earlier

Considering how many laws were blatantly and openly broken here and the warnings that were posted all over the web, one has to wonder why this was allowed to go on for so long.

Guess the secret word and it begins with M.

I think that I will follow another country twice daily, 365 days/year.

I spend 6 months in Thailand and 6 back home so this constant barrage of nepotism, cronyism, criminality of religious leaders, avoidance of penalty because of wealth and status is really making me quite ill.

Surely there is a developed world country which flaunts it's weaknesses as much as Thailand does.

While there is no doubt that he should be severely punished...who gives a crap about bringing Buddhism into (further) disrepute? ! ? Or whether the world's Buddhists are embarrassed? "FCK" all that!

He should be severely punished for trafficking of endangered species, dealing in illegal animal trade, housing and selling of illegal animal parts and substances, illegal breeding of endangered species...and on and on and on.

Why anyone should give a squirt of piss about the reputation of Buddhism or Buddhists or any of the world's superstitions is beyond me. Time to stop paying homage and giving special tribute/status to ALL religions worldwide.
