Australian arrested in Bangkok for grooming children on the internet

BANGKOK: -- A joint operation of Australian police, Australian embassy officials and local police resulted in the arrest of a 62 year old Australian man in the Lat Prao area of Bangkok on Tuesday.

He could be jailed for five years on charges of grooming children, producing and sharing indecent images. He admitted the charges , police said reported tnamcot.

Stephen Lee Cornu denied another charge of molesting his own adopted daughter. He lived in the Happy Land area of the eastern suburb with his Thai wife and her biological child.

Lat Prao police armed with an arrest warrant took away a computer while investigative officers pored over the two storey house where the Australian was living. He had just returned to Thailand on Monday.

The Thai authorities had earlier received information about the man from their counterparts in Australia.

was discussing the same at work the other day, a tough old lady staff member remarked ' when will pedophillia be accepted as a sexual preference?', worst thing was we all see it looming as possible.

dealing with peds, jades people quickly, you develop a 'gallows' humour about them, it is a way to deal with the horrors they have committed or will in the future.

Well actually it isn't like that in the West at all.

A Divorced Wife can bring home any drunk man for the night and let him stay their for free. Give him breakfast in the morning and get him to look after your 12 year old daughter while she goes to work or shopping. Even though you still may be paying all the the Bills, there is nothing you can do about that as the Courts feels your x-wife has the right to live her own life the way she chooses. So if you refuse to pay after that you go to jail.

it is not easy to monitor activities of all visitors into the country. the police has a tough job to do that.

more community involvement can help to bring cases like this to light until such time only odd cases will be known and actioned upon.

They can only be placed on a sex offenders register if they already have convictions for pedophilia. Many of their activities go unnoticed for years before they get caught, others may still be operating waiting to be caught and some may never be caught. They said this man was sharing images online so there are loads more like him out there and guess this case is just one snow flake in a blizzard.

If someone invented an electrical device that bleeped when it detected a pedophile I think they would find them in the millions. It must be rampant and have no idea how this problem can be solved except as in this case they do something that bring themselves to the attention of the police.

I can remember as a kid 50 odd years ago we always felt safe and our parents didn`t worry about us, it just didn`t seem so prevalent as it is now, or maybe that this is more publicised then it was in the past, I really don`t know.

It might be that The Australian government knew or suspected what he was doing but either didn't have enough for a criminal case or needed his computer to complete the case.Then then ask the Thai government to arrest him .When convicted here the Australian will then have access to new evidence that may be in his computer..He will be deported home to now face a stronger criminal case.

That was my guess but it's unusual that police would notify the embassy and have someone from there accompany them to an arrest.

So I'm thinking AFP. They have an office in Bangkok and the article does state they were tipped off to his behaviour.

That's a tricky situation. Australian government setting citizens up for arrest overseas. Wouldn't be the first time.

I have no sympathy for this filth though.
