geovalin Posted June 19, 2016 Share Posted June 19, 2016 The spokesman for the Ministry of Cults and Religion said yesterday that the ministry is seeking the whereabouts of a monk named Var Sinan, who recently posted nude photos and a video of himself masturbating on his Facebook page, which have since gone viral and shocked the general public. Seng Somony, the spokesman, added that the supreme patriarch of Buddhist monks has decided to defrock Mr. Sinan for displaying his manhood. “He is a monk, but he did not obey the Buddhist monks’ disciplines,” he told Khmer Times yesterday. “He posted his nude photos on his Facebook page which has seriously affected the honor of the religion, especially Buddhist monks’ reputations and honor,” Mr. Somony said. The spokesman said that after the nude photos and video clip were posted, the supreme patriarch held a meeting about the rogue monk’s case yesterday at Wat Botum in Phnom Penh. The meeting was held under the presidency of Samdech Nuon Ngeth, the supreme patriarch of Buddhist monks in Cambodia, and other representatives from the Ministry of Cults and Religions. Thai's Buddhist temples have gained an unsavoury reputation at home and abroad as repositories of decadence and corruption rather than havens of peace and spiritual enlightenment. The activities of this saffron-robed wonker with the flashy car and a small fortune stashed in a foreign bank are small Leo compared with the outlandish exploits of monks who have made headlines lately as rapists, pedophiles, drug users, drunks and alleged embezzlers on a mind-boggling scale. What IS truly shocking is the hands-off attitude of the current government to the ongoing debasement of what is effectively the national religion - and, of course, the abject failure of the of the Buddhist hierarchy to implement a thorough root-and-branch investigation of all wats tainted by criminality and corruption.
