BMA to go ahead with its Chao Phraya River banks development project

BANGKOK, 20 June 2016, (NNT) - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) will proceed with its project to develop the banks of the Chao Phraya River.

BMA Deputy Permanent Secretary Patarut Tardaranon recently made the comment during the Thailand Moves Forward TV program. He is confident that Thailand will benefit from the project, which will develop the banks of Chao Phraya River which runs through the capital city.

He said emphasis will be placed on the well being of current residents of the riverbank areas. However, Mr. Patarut added that some of the people may have to be relocated, in order to facilitate the development process. The BMA Deputy Permanent Secretary assured the locals that thorough studies and surveys will be conducted. The collected information will be used to determine outcomes of various decisions in the project, which will commence next year.

Meanwhile, residents of the area admitted that they were concerned when they learnt about the program. They suggested officials conduct a lot of research on the environmental, cultural and social impacts before proceeding. They said that relevant agencies should also examine similar projects in other countries to help make a success of the riverside project.

what is really amazing is that the squatters that are living there illegally are the ones making the loudest noise, they have turned the river banks into a cesspit with the raw sewage and all the rubbish they just dump into the water and now want to be subsidized for being removed. They should be made to pay for the clean up instead, the removal of all the illegal huts etc should be entirely on them, they knowingly built them where they shouldnt have, thing is they dont care as they all think they are above the law and accept no responsibility for anything they do.

There are huge swathes of academics, public bodies etc crying foul on it. It is an extremely ill thought out, difficult and ill planned project which under the current circumstances is really not something that needs to be looked at. They could not even find companies to carry out studies on it such is the scepticism of it.

The stupidest thing of all is that it would be the BMA to lead it especially given the spotlight currently on them.

But it will be of benefit to the developers of that mega mall under construction: the apex, the pinnacle, the zenith, the epitome....something like that , I forget the exact name.

Splendid idea, locate large buildings, with lots of underground parking required, on the banks of a river that floods every year in a city that is sinking. Would I invest in that? Would I hell!

A green Park/floodway makes more sense. Enhanced real estate values would be back from the river by 100 meters.

I don't suppose the current "lucky" landholders would go along with this.
