PM kicks off leadership creation program

BANGKOK, 20 June 2016 (NNT) – The Prime Minister has chaired a signing ceremony to kick off the CONNEXT ED: The Leadership Program for School Partner program.

Prime Minister Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha gave a speech to inaugurate the CONNEXT ED program, a civil-state effort designed to enhance basic education with an aim to create future leaders. He outlined that the project brings together 12 organizations that will work together to enact 10 strategies in 3,342 schools nationwide. The PM stated that program marks a historical turning point for education in Thailand and will see youths developed to ready the country for new changes.

President of Charoen Pokphand, Suphachai Chearavanont, as head of the private sector team for the program, explained that he and a total 12 corporate executives will be serving as School Sponsors, providing funding and consulting to participating schools to ultimately select 1,000 candidates for leadership training. The program aims to expand to 7,424 schools by next year and every sub-district level school by the year 2019.

And this speech on leadership was made with a straight face, was it..?

Was there a segment on banana slinging and the best way to make death threats?

Just too tempting to leave this NNT-piece alone – this would have to be the best oxymoron ever, juxtaposing junta-head and leadership.

Each to their own of course robblok, but I wouldn't throw her out of bed to get to the good General..

They are both (and most Thai politicians) hypocritical. I have only seen a few good ones Abisith and Korn

Ah yes leadership... all well and good as long as they understand they won't actually be doing any leading... that's all been taken care of.

'Leadership' is one of those weasel concepts that can be made to mean just about anything to suit the personal prejudice of the person using it, There is no consensus on what constitutes leadership, let alone on how it how it develops. Perhaps the PM could enlighten us about his view on the characteristic skills of a successful leader and how these can be taught.

Both examples highly overrated and equally corrupted.

I think the majority of people wouldn't throw the wicked old witch out of bed to get to Prayuth.

A seriously unpleasant thought. A knot-hole in a fencepost would probably be better...

To be fair, they've had 1 or 2 good leaders (well actually more). It's a quality that seems to be lacking at the moment though. We seem to be going through an hiatus.

Better to do something positive for the country and be criticised than to do nothing at all and be criticised.

Good luck Prayut. Great way forward.

Yes, he did it with a straight face. This is the man that is positively ensuring education DOES NOT improve. This is the man who has come up with not a single good idea, on how to bring about the much needed changes to an educational system that remains one of the worst in the world. The elite do not want the educational system to improve. Who does he work for? There, you have you answer.
