Verify need appointment at Chatuchak for driver's license

My Thai friend just got off the phone with the Land Transportation office in Chatuchak. They said that I can go and give my documents this week but they would call me in a month or so to schedule an appointment as the queue is backed up. She said this is the same as for a Thai person as she is trying to get one also. In previous posts, people have said that there are two counters at Chatuchak dedicated for foriegners and can obtain in one day. I only have one day off and need to get a driver's license this week so I don't want to go all the way there and get told to wait a month. Can someone confirm that this is true? If it is, can anyone recommend another office where I can get one this week. Test would need to be in English.

Thanks,

EDIT: just found "Test would need to be in English.".

So you want to do it from scratch.

No idea how you can jump the week long queues.

You are aware that also a "practical driving test" (circling on the yard gigglem.gif ) is required?

-----------------------------------

Not clear from the OP: what is your intention/precondition?

1) Having a home country DL and probably an international drivers permit and wanting it to convert to a Thai DL?

2) Having no DL at all, doing from scratch?

For 1) tons of threads about the required documents etc. Very unlikely that there are appointments needed.

2) Often has long queues. Doing one often requires two days. Three weeks for appointment, two days doing it for me (motorcycle license upcountry).

So what is it?

Thank you for the quick reply.

I have a driver's license and International permit from America but both are expired for 1.5 years now so most likely I have to do from scratch. I have the required documents, Passport, work permit and doctor's certificate. But my Thai friends told me that I can only give my documents to them now and they will contact me in a month or so for an appointment to do the required testing. Two days would be acceptable but waiting a month is not good for me. I have read many posts regarding this but first I have heard of this. I hope this clarifies my intent.

Edited, Yes I think the test and driving requirements are not a problem, I have studied and drive well.
