Just from Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon is free for fun, better near from BKK. We tend to quiet and old city, wanna seek an original taste of Thailand.

"Dalat Nam Taling Chan" is an outdoor, riverside market open Saturday's & Sundays specializing in plants and vegetables, but the main draw is great seafood served on some converted barges, cooked to order by vendors in small boats tied alongside...reasonably priced and delicious, mostly populated by Thais. Most eat sitting on the deck at low tables but there is a section of standard tables and chairs for those of us who don't quite bend that well.

It is close to Bangkok Noi on the Thonbury side of the river...about a B200 taxi ride from central Bangkok. One can also take the air con. #76 bus for B36 which I have picked up on Whittayu (Wireless Rd) but if you google it you'll find where else it stops. The #40 (Sukhumvit, Samut Phrakan to Bangkok Noi) bus goes as close as the Makro in Bangkok Noi...short taxi ride from there.

There's a lot of floating markets- Amphawa is good but gets a bit crowded, you might be better off with somewhere like Talin Chan floating market- more traditional and smaller, if you're after a taste of the 'real' Thailand. You can google for directions.

Or just do what dddave suggested. That's probably better.

You do understand that "fun" means widely different things to different people.

Soi Cowboy and Soi Nana. Take your GF if she is Bi.

Great fun, for all.

Fancy recommending crap areas like that, ridiculous

And those two places aren't free, can be quite costly.

Shopping - temples- nightlife - issan clubs- western restaurants-Thai restaurants- red light areas- jazz clubs- techno beeps and squeaks <deleted>- bars- pubs - the river-the best massage shops in the world - Thai boxing-street markets. Despite the efforts of the regime Bangkok has a lot to offer not least of all its only 2 hours from fun city, pattaya, which has not been ruined yet.

A lot of the "Floating Markets" are now very "touristy" and heavily commercialised.

One which is still very "traditional" is Wat Don Wai on the way to Nakorn Pathom.

A large traditional Thai market and you can take boat trips on the river - some boats have their own cooking facilities, others just tables - you can but your food in the Market and either take it to the boat yourself or have it delivered!

Good, fun way to spend a day.

Wat Don Wai is where a lot of locals go on the weekends. 30-40min drive on weekends from Sukhumvit area. Its not really a floating market, more like a normal market selling food, veggies, snacks, etc. Its also very small, size of two warehouses perhaps? You can take the 1 hour long boat ride and cruise along the river, ticket were pretty cheap something like 50 baht. Buy your own food/snacks and eat it on the boat while you enjoy the scenery.

There is also a chinese/buddhist temple 5 minutes away, very nice and worth a visit. Built around 3 years ago, very few people know about it.

A hip coffee place - RIVA Floating Cafe. You can drink / eat (simple thai and pasta dishes) by on the river. There is a section where you can dip your feet in the river water to cool off. Place is very small, so its packed during the weekends. Its located right beside a hotel - Parn Dhevi (same owner), you can get a Thai massage there as well, prices were not too bad. Best to go before 11am.

Also the huge Phuthamonthon Buddhist Park is worth seeing in the same area with large Buddha statue, nice place to have a picnic or ride your bike.

In the same area, there is also a market similar to Chatuchak Market but a mini version of it its actually called "Chatuchak 2" still a good size market. Sells a bit of everything, fun place for a stroll. If you want coordinates, ask me.

The street across the Phuthamonthon Park - street name (Uthayan Road) is nice to see with decorative lamp post (I find the view better during the day than at night). The road was built for the King. There are local restaurants along the side of the street where locals eat at night.

If you fancy somewhere a bit nicer, there is a large Thai/German/International restaurant along that road as well. Decorated with European style housing call "Ban Naam Kieng Din", nice family restaurant. You can end the day trip with dinner here, only opens for dinner. https://www.facebook.com/bnkd.restaurant/

I've seen signs for Orchild Fields and Lotus farms that are in the area too, never been as the signs never tell you where it is exactly.

The attractions listed above are where locals go on weekends, its makes a great day trip. All the attraction are within a 5-10min drive of each other.

There are even more things to do nearby which requires entrance ticket - ranges from 100 to 500 baht. Did not list as they are tourist type of places.
