Is Krabi safe enough for a solo traveller?

Hi everyone! I would like to know if it would be safe enough for a solo traveller to go to Krabi for say ten days?

Any suggestions for accommodation near nice, quiet beaches with soft sands?

Why not?.....regarding accommodation, I usually pick out a nice place that I come across after I get there,

I learned a phrase after not a long living in Thailand...."You think too much".

If you are worried enough to post about your fear of coming to Krabi - then don't come to Thailand at all!

There are plenty of quiet beaches now the rainy season is in full swing. The best beaches are outside Krabi town (which has no beaches), so try Ao Nang.

Unless you have a very big budget, you won't afford a hotel on the beach; so be prepared to rent a motorbike then you can get to secluded beaches (Pan beach, the southern end of Klong Muang beach, Had Yao etc.). How much is your budget?

Pan bungalows is on a beach but it's a bit secluded so transportation could be a problem unless you rented a motorcycle, etc. They do have a restaurant there, also. There is a new place with separate bungalows on Klong Muang beach, though probably more expensive than Pan, but there are restaurants, etc. nearby. Sheraton is just up the beach and I know that the Nakamanda further down has good food. Sorry, don't know the name. Very recently opened. The Frog and Catfish is another place, not on a beach. Highly rated. They help to provide transport to the beach, etc. I've lived here for years w/no problems at all...

Nothing wrong with Krabi, lots of western tourists there.

One suggestion I would make though, especially outside of the tourist areas is to dress a bit more conservatively. Krabi is a province with a substantial Muslim population that makes up almost half it's entire population, so they are somewhat more conservative with regards to dress than Thais further north.

Red Ginger Resort is fantastic, had a pool access room there, good restaurant and many places nearby to eat, easy to walk to beach if you need it, we just stayed at the hotel most days with small child. I found it very safe, we will go back again with our small son who we think was actually conceived there, haha!

Depends on the person and level of street smarts. Some people dont seem to be qualified to leave the block they live on. They tend to be the ones that get mangled or messed up.

I saw a guy in Heaven Above take his drink to the loo. Never had seen that before. Weird but makes sense if you think about it. Don't think I would do it though.

Totally agree. The bit about not coming back and drinking the drink you left is advice from the UK police. A drink is cheap enough to replace so it isnt a big deal.

I'm really wondering how much time you have spent in Krabi, Kim, please enlighten. Krabi is not necessarily Phi-Phi Don, right???.....

OP, if you are going to Ao Nang, get an ocean view room at J-Hotel (nice people), you are then walking distance to the beach. No one is going to spike your drink (never have seen that anyway), especially if you bag a big beer from 7-11 and drink it at sunset on the beach wall. Then, there are a ton of restaurants to choose from.

For sure safe for a solo traveller, the rest of these people who say "no" don't know trckall.

Only dangerous part in Ao is the greasy Car Park down at the Ferry.....Visitors on Mocy fall of daily under the tree sheltered part. Its safe here,nice Muslims n Thais.Many Singapore visitors now

Absolutely...just keep your wits about you, as one always should anywhere. Not guaranteed 100% safe anywhere in the world, but Krabi is NICE. Highly recommend!

It would depend on your sex, age and intended activities.

For example,

As a middle aged. slightly overweight. frumpy housewife. who never wears jewelry, likes to go shopping in local markets, and drink in coffee bars, I feel perfectly safe. But if I were an 18 year old female who liked to race around on a scooter, get drunk, take drugs and attend full moon parties all night, maybe not so.

my concern was things like any thieves targeting tourists but it wasnt even mentioned once. that's good. im generally very careful but one can never be too careful and thus the question.

i might go there in high season and book a quiet and clean hotel (three star perhaps) near the sea if possible. nothing's certain for now though.

my inability to drive isnt helping in any case.

thanks so much Ray. i was looking at travel website and bookmarked the place lol. it's not cheap for a solo traveller but it does seem nice with a gym and a pool and it's near the beach. i'll seriously consider it. thanks!

I would rate Ao Nang as safer than Pattaya, Phuket and Bangkok
