England to win Euros? Don't believe this Chiang Mai porcupine!

CHIANG MAI: -- Amid all the turmoil over Britain's exit from the European Union there was at last some light relief in Chiang Mai. The Night Safari organized a show where the attraction's prized albino porcupine called "Little" chose the expected winner of Euro 2016.

With piles of fruit in front of flags representing the main contenders in European football's showpiece event, Little was set off to pick the winner. The crowd held its collective breath but didn't have to wait long - he went straight for England, reported Thairath.

Apparently in previous match predictions Little has nearly always got the result right so it seems certain that England would prevail.

But just to be sure Little was returned to the starting line and set off again. But even a second time though he showed a little interest in Wales and Italy with a few nibbles on those plates, he feasted once again at the England cross of St George.

Just to add to the fun a black porcupine called "Jao Han" was also given a try. He chose Wales without hesitation. Meanwhile when the experts had finished the director of the Chiang Mai Night Safari Sarawut Srisakun was given a chance - unhesitatingly he marched straight up to the German flag and hoisted it high.

However, it seems that the predictions of the LIttle the albino porcupine were short lived.

England lost 2-1 to Iceland and have been knocked out of Euro 2016, in what some are calling one of the biggest shocks in the history of the English national team.

At least the porcupine story is good for a laugh. coffee1.gif

A football loss to Iceland (huh - 1600 years later and they conquered you again?) and exiting from the European Union were not laughing matters. Thank God I am not a UK citizen.

England? It is well past high time there was a UK team, not 4 little "nation" teams. No other country would get away with it. Or maybe it is already too late.... Wales has just started talking about independence.

Or maybe England should just give passports to all the premier league players....

I understand that there is a petition in train in the UK to have England reinstated to the Euros on the grounds that those playing for England had been misled into believing that they were up against a team from a country that had a population no bigger than Chiang Mai and that this should have been a walk in the park for a nation with a population of 38 million people* that invented the game.

*Used to be stated as 51 million, but it has recently been demonstrated that 13 million of that population are in fact turkeys.
