5 million baht worth of fake and smuggled liquor seized

Its not just the high end booze that's fake, 7-8 yrs ago I bought a bottle of 100 Pipers from the Family Mart next to the JJ markets. That evening we were staying at a friends place in Bkk as friends of the family. My friend who was at the time 2 IC in the Tourist Police, and his brother who was the Dean of the University of Law in BKK had a drink. My friend drank only a couple of shots and went to bed, however his brother and I finished off the bottle. I was quite sick the next day trying to do some last minute shopping in the new (at the time) Siam Square Mall. So new it was they had not installed the garbage bins there yet and I was having difficulty finding places to throw up. However I survived, but my friends brother ended up in hospital for several days. Needless to say my friend was soon to ask me where I bought the whisky from and he had the place raided. Things don't seem to have changed much since.

They have 'fake' versions in the US. They just have to use the name "Just like' with the brand. So these guys should call their stuff 'Just like Johnny Walker'.

They also have moonshine in the US, 150 us$ for a gallon of almost 4 litre.

How much does a litre of Jack Daniels cost in the US? I bet much less then moonshine so why do they like to drink that stuff? It even costs more as Jack D.

Funny thing no one is questioning, why there is apparently such a big business for smuggled orginal alcohol (83,5% were authentic alcohol).

Lower the import duties and the government would get extra revenue and people wouldn't risk their health (apart from drinking too much).

Maybe this is why alcohol in BKK always gives me headaches. I never have that in Europe.

Did you fall asleep during maths lessons?

Something like 16% fake.... On bottles averaging 1800 baht each.... Blurry expensive (fakes)

Old boxes, Somchai working the labels. Bottoms up!

God, this is very old 'news'. I'd seen a program on Thai tv 15 years ago showing them actually making the stuff. And haha, the pic in the OP, is that 100 Pipers? What an earth does the 'real stuff' taste like? Can't possibly worse than the copy can it? bah.giflaugh.png

Almost certain I bought fake Kahlua on the Nong Khai border, so I decided to make my own but Thailand only sells fake vanilla essence lol

You can buy real vanilla pods here. I have, and used them to make my own Kahlua.

Thai beer is crap IMO........I switched to Heinekin a while back.....but now I've just viewed a video of a fake Heinekin factory!.......

Heineken is Thai beer, made in Thailand, even though it's supposed to be brewed under supervision.

After seeing the folks filling the small bottles by hand, I'm sure Heineken in Holland will be interested,.

In the last few weeks we did have the fake levis, fake orange juice, fake shampoo. Lets not forget the fake paracetamol( few years ago). Is there anything real here?

The fakes are 100% real

Thai beer has been crap forever apart from the relatively short lived Kloster brand. I switched to Mae Khong, and now Sang Som, decades ago.

I know of some bars that pour cheap alcohol into bottles with better labels.

And if you think Thai beer is crap, their cheap "scotches" like 100 Pipers is even worse. But when I use to go out with the younger in-laws years ago and insist on Mae Khong in the club they would pour it into an empty bottle of their crap cheap imports for appearance sake.

I am not an alcohol addict or brainwashed person that needs alcohol to have fun

I feel disguested with all the fakes, specially medicine

but I also learned about all the side effects of the legal drugs, you don't need those

healthy lifestyle in stead of a pill that fix nothing but stops a natural chemical process in the body

but most people do not even bother to read the side effects or the hospitals does not give you the inlay , just strips of pills in a bag
