Tourist attractions given signs aimed at unruly Chinese

PATTAYA:--The Tourism Council of Thailand has begun distributing signs in Chinese and English in hopes of controlling the often unruly behavior of mainland visitors.

Thanet Supornsahatrangsi, vice chairman of the council’s eastern region, unveiled the 100-by-50-centimeter dual-language signs at a news conference July 4.

They ask tourists to understand and respect the culture and tradition of Thailand, and indicate what to do and what not to do in various places.

Among those asked to display the signs were Nong Nooch Tropical Garden, the Sanctuary of Truth, temples, historical sites, the Pattaya Floating Market, Khao Chi Chan, and the Sriracha Tiger Zoo.

And perhaps a few additional signs informing Thais how to treat tourists.

But they do not have to treat you. They live here.

Every Resort that has an island feature within - must have a sign, for Chinese to keep Off...

Sign placard co-signed in Vietnamese, Tagalog, Bahasa, Thai...

That's exactly the attitude that destroys tourism. How can you possibly believe that Thai's do not need to treat tourists with respect and offer a great experience for tourism to flourish.?

Yes, people that misbehave should be told not to do so, but most do not misbehave.

...always ready to keep foreigners in line.....

...the locals can do as they please.....

It's a bit where I live- a local company rents out villas by the day in our very small development .

I take my tiny dog out for several walks everyday - but sometimes we have Arab Muslim visitors- they think he is some sort of devil- haram .

I even had one of them try to kick him- he is a friendly mite.

I tell them to <deleted> off, he lives here.

It's their country- you live here or visit - stick to the rules and customs.

If Thailand had relaxed the rules - the entire country would be under foreign ownership- like many cities around the world.

Good they have realized how disgusting some of the low grade

Chinese are, that come to Pattaya.

Hope the no spitting sign, is at the top bah.gif

Apparently the Chinese believe in something called the Throat Devil which is why they spit. Sounds stupid to me but not obviously to the Chinese

respect and how you treat people is not a one way deal.

In somewhat related vein, my condo has signs up about sharing lifts, taking garbage to garbage bins and not leaving in hall, etc. Signs in English and Thai: I suggested to office might be useful to add Russian and Chinese.... In my experience Russians won't hold a lift even if you are 2 meters from the door. Haven't had many Chinese here (yet). Fingers crossed.

Can they make a sign for them to stop making beds out off the seats at your departure gate at the airport ? especially Air Asia , some people would like to sit down before boarding commences . These Chinese think the gate is a hotel room and take a nap before the flight departs making other passengers sit on the floor.

In the last week I've seen rude Chinese upsetting everyone around them in Chiang Mai, Suvarnabhummi, and at Asiatique. These signs are much in need. Not that they will make one iota of difference.

What is the farang doing in the picture. Did he approve the signs ?

Erm, you are here permanently I assume and you are foreign, just as long as its not those pesky "A" ran Mulsims right?

Just wanted to remind you of that fact.

Well, it seems the throat devil is doing a good job of possessing just about everybody in China from my time there.

Perhaps the government could post signs in Thai at the "scenic points" along the roads explaining that "scenic view" is not a euphemism for "toss your garbage here". Point being that Thai tourist behavior is not any better than Chinese tourist behavior. Which of course is not all that surprising considering that 60% of Bangkok is Thai-Chinese and that 100% of the country is under Sino-Thai control.

And a sign for the Chinese loaded coach drivers to respect other road users.
