Interior Min orders tight security during referendum

BANGKOK, 16 July 2016 (NNT) - The Ministry of Interior asked provincial authorities to tighten security on the referendum day.

During this meeting with provincial governors, Interior Minister Gen Anupong Paochinda told provincial and local officers to increase security measures at polling stations in order to facilitate the referendum.

He also asked about the registration of eligible voters and the readiness of personnel to be stationed at polling booths.

He then urged government officials to exercise patience, uphold impartiality, and perform their duties in the most efficient way.

Speaking with officials of the newly-established peace keeping center, he said everyone should avoid violating the 2016 Public Referendum Act by refraining from making suggestions that could sway or influence people’s judgment towards the draft constitution.

He also thanked provincial governors for making sure that policies issued by the government are implemented according to the roadmap.

Security was notable by it's absence at the last elections, we since found out the reason for that.

There's no doubt that the distribution of votes will tell a story. Probably the numbers won't be completely reported for that very reason.

PM Prayut has already assured the public that the NCPO will be tasked with maintaining peace and order during the referendum.

Did General Anupong Paochinda not get the memo?

Personally, I think Prayut should have mobilized Buddhist Monks with maintaining peace and order - not even the military can intimidate or dislodge them.
