KRABI: Koh Lanta Yai Administration Organization (OrBorTor) vice president Anusorn Wangphon was arrested yesterday in an anti-corruption sting operation.

The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) allege that the 49 year-old official requested 20 million baht from a businessman in exchange for the issuance of land title deeds.

The operation was led by NACC Assistant Secretary-General Colonel Ittiphol Kitsuwan, who said Mr Anusorn was caught with 2,000 bank notes, totaling 2 million baht, packed in a bag along with two mobile phones and cheques totaling 18 million baht.

“Mr Anusorn has been charged with dereliction of duty, receiving bribes and extortion,” Col Ittiphol said.

How much was spent during the vote buying democracy?

This is the way it worked here, things are changing, need a million more stings and things might improve.

Yes, another step in the right direction - whatever the junta haters (and for this reason lovers of the worst alternative) will write

what was the cut? something to show they are on the job..while the real big one...get away..

Familiar with the area, those who are locals tell of the "family" running things there. Now in full swing as the bridge has been completed. More frequent "news" will be coming from the area now. They'll effectively ruin a great area.

....so many offenders from the past 10-20 yet to be brought to justice.....

This is why we need a military lead coup every 8 years or so.

I guess this case will drag on like Jarndyce and Jarndyce for the next 20 or so years. No prison time for the felon, juts endless appeals while he lives the life of Riley on the rest of his illegal earnings. Will he still be Obortor, or moved to an inactive post?

you are living in the past

15 years earlier Mr. T himself said: I am going to eliminate corruption...show me the receipts and I will take action.

It is nice to see that the much pilloried military government appears to be achieving a better record.

Keep up the good work !

Little by little ...

The whingers want it all done overnight , forgetting how bad it was allowed to grow under the old regime , as long as it carried the (deleted ) version of "democracy" ...

Caught red handed. I wonder how much he'll have to pay to get out of it with a slap on the wrist?
