Thai police arrest two men after deadly bomb blasts

As Thailand reels from a series of bomb blasts, the Prime Minister has called for an official investigation.

The explosions targeted tourist hot spots in the south, killing four people and wounding dozens more.

Police have arrested two men for questioning. They ruled out international terrorism saying local dissidents opposed to military rule were likely to blame.

Since the country voted on a new constitution on Sunday, which critics say hands more power to the ruling junta, the country has been hit by seven attacks.

The devices used were similar to those used by separatist groups in southern Thailand, but the police chief added, this was not conclusive proof they were behind the attacks.

Two men detained over Thailand blasts

TWO men have been detained in relation to a series of blasts that exploded in popular tourist destinations in Thailand, killing at least four people.

A total of 11 foreigners were injured.

It was not clear who was behind the attacks on Thursday and Friday, which followed a successful referendum held last weekend on a new constitution that critics say will bolster the military’s power for years to come.

But the violence appeared aimed at undermining the country’s tourism industry, which provides vital income to the government.

Yes... we understand the true nature of thai people ...

"This is not the nature of the Thai people. Normally we are a very friendly country destination," she said. "I think Thailand has passed many ups and downs and I think we all know the world has changed.

"I think people do return to us, even after last year's incident. I think (tourists) understand the true nature of the Thai people."

Looking forward to seeing where this goes with these 2 suspects.

Such a shame that all this is doing is hurting the country and the very people that are the main suspects are defended by minority supporters who at the same time still condemn the military that are trying to protect the people.

What a messed up world were the violent minority suspects are defended and if they are found guilty through evidence the verdict is still brushed aside as the work of the military. Until the reason for the problem is accepted it will continue. The majority now see it. This and this reason alone is the root cause of why the majority no longer support this violent group and we can only hope the majority again work through these troubles in Thailand and not let violence be the solution to guide the country politically.

Their's are usually "spectaculars", as they are known.

They are on about certain people not being 'sophisticated' enough to do these kind of co-ordinated attacks. Not sure how much it takes to detonate say 4 small bombs in 4 separate locations, around a certain time!?

It doesn't sound like rocket-science!

Part of my job used to be remotely detonating explosives placed underground by VHF radio. (Not in Thailand).

- Neither insurgents in the South nor any group made claims on these attacks
(similarly and oddly, nor did the Uighurs group claim Erawan attack)
- Eerily similar to NY Eve 2006 BKK bombings after Thaksin ouster:
All Bangkok bombs of the same type

- Referendum did not go his way
- Directly after confiscating 46 billion of Thaksin's ill gotten gains in 2010 things really heated up.

There is no doubt in my mind that this was the work of factions opposed to the horrific power grab represented by the new constitution and referendum. It gave the army far more power, and influence over the country for many years to come. Since discussion and debate were not allowed, and the public was not informed about the true intentions of the vote, there was bound to be some hostile elements left behind. Extreme power has it's consequences.

The real shame, is that this only feeds into the hands of the military. Unrest only gives them more control. And the goons that are responsible for these attacks are only weakening their own economy (appears to be their intention) and tourist industry. Perhaps they are anarchists? The woman who was killed in the first attack was a poor som tam vendor in Hua Hin. What can one even say?

Your rambling a bit old boy.

'The real shame is that this only feeds into the hands of the military'. Now, isn't that interesting. Cui bono?

Introducing the new djjamie  drinking game. You have to drink every time he says majority or minority.  I count 5 drinks in this post. It's gonna be a long day!

Quit frankly the whole episode has been handled shoddy , on the OZ TV the reporter is saying the police knew of impending attacks but didn't know where , fair enough,  however  they said nothing,  not even a warning to everybody to be awhere that attacks may take place ,this would not prevent injuries , but it would have indicated the Junta had everyone's welfare as a  priority ,  this is not good , and it is evident that the Junta will do anything to preserve the tourist industry at any cost................................................:coffee1:

As a cautionary reminder, please recall the bombings on Koh Samui prior to the  overthrow the former  elected government. It was claimed that it was  a "redshirt" inspired  occurrence, and we were promised a big reveal. It was later acknowledged that the bombing was related to a commercial dispute. The moral being, don't rush to  blame a group  until there are actual facts confirmed.

If you are implying false flag.. the military already had good control over the country especially after the referendum. This damages the economy and that is the last thing they want it makes no sense.

The only 2 real options are insurgents / reds (both have proven their violent capabilities in the past)

ISIS is out still has not claimed responsibility.

A reality crime-drama TV show in Thailand would last approximately 3 min.  Script:  Crime-Photos-Arrest-Crime Solved.

No, you would have to allow an extra 10 minutes for beating the confessions out of the Burmese migrants you have picked up!

On the point of advance knowledge by the government, this snippet was in Reuters' news report last night on the bombings... I haven't seen it reported in our various bombing threads here:

Quote

Ahead of the blasts, Police had intelligence an attack was imminent, but had no precise information on location or timing, national police chief Chakthip Chaijinda told reporters in Bangkok on Friday.

"We just didn't know which day something would happen," he said.

Perhaps the discovery of two explosive or arson devices in Patong in Wednesday -- before the main attacks Thursday and Friday -- might have been a clue.

They have NEVER had good control over the South, where all these bombs went off, why do you keep making false and inaccurate statements like this?

I asked you yesterday to keep and open mind and to think outside of the box, and yet you are immediately dispelling any possible false flag in this matter, you sound likr the kind of guy who makes up his mind immediately, and closes off their minds as they believe everything they're being told.

Nice one, you've been conditioned to no longer be able to think for yourself.

NO country would EVER acknowledge false flags, but you should always keen an open mind that they could very easily do so.

There is also more than 2 options as well.

It's an even more messed up world in which Farangs  who came from such countries that fought for freedom and democracy defend military Regimes !!!!
