PHUKET: The weekly “Lard Yai Walking Street” market in Old Town Phuket has been cancelled this Sunday (August 14) as an extra safety precaution in the wake of arson and bomb attacks on Thursday and Friday.

The cancellation was announced through a post on the market’s official facebook page.

Meanwhile, leaders of four key hotel and tourism business associations on the island have signed a letter issued to member businesses asking for cooperation in crisis management measures.

The letter – signed by the heads of the Phuket Tourist Association (Satienpong Na Takuathung), Thai Hotel Association Southern Chapter (Dr Kritsada Tansakul), Patong Hotels Association (Ms Supattra Jaruariyanon) and the Kata Karon Hotel Business Association (Mr Kritsada Kanchanalai) – asks for hotel and tourism operator members to ramp up surveillance and exercise vigelence  around their respective places of business, and to provide convenience and accurate information on the state of affairs.

The letter noted that “though there may be cancellations among Thai nationals, there has been no notification of cancellations among foreign tourists,” adding that occupancy remains at about 70 per cent islandwide, and 80% in Patong, before stressing that ramped up security would help to restore confidence among travellers.

At the time of press, Phuket FC’s match tonight with Ranong United at Surakul Stadium was still on schedule.

In other words, lot's of cancellations. Phuket, patong has seen a drop in rental prices as well.

Their vocal flagrant flatulations never cease to amaze me. Yes Disneyland is still open for business.

Well:whistling:

Trang suffers '100-per cent booking cancellation'

Quote

Prateep Jongthong, president of Trang tourism association, Saturday insisted that the August 12 bombings and arsons in various southern provinces including Trang had adversely impacted tourism as many visitors cancelled their planned travels.

No falang cancellations???  :cheesy:

They're really do think we're idiots!

There are plenty of cancellations in Khao Lak... and people are leaving 'early'.

So far I have not seen cancellations.

I have seen people writing me 'if this is a one-off we'll come as scheduled' (and paid for quite often). But ... And the effect on people who have not booked yet?

I sometimes wonder why  these people open their mouths.

According to the BP the crisis is over. Not bad for 24 hours!

Western foreigners and Aussies/Kiwis are not easily scared off. The Koreans and Chinese, however, run away when a cat farts. :coffee1:

That's right, none.  Not a single person has cancelled their plans!

What a poor choice of words.

Patong has 80% occupancy ???

Isn't it low season now !!!

Or is that 80% of permanent residents have stayed :)
