Not at all. There are plenty of expat couples here in Bangkok. It's not unusual in the slightest, despite what this forum would lead you to believe.

 

Not many seem to post here - probably because there's a perception that this forum is for sexpats.

Last time i visited, Australia wasnt a state. And Im only of average IQ.

What can't you handle about it ? What are your activities while here ?

 

The men I have seen that cannot handle Thailand are the ones who never considered living any other way than the way they live in the west. They eat at western restaurants, shop at western styled malls and generally never integrate with the local society. If that is your idea of living in Thailand, then you have never actually been living here, only been a tourist passing through.

 

I am happy here. It is an easy place to live. Cheap rents, no credit checks, very few hassles outside of Immigration issues. 

I agree with most of your reply, but I fail to see why it is necessary to "integrate" with the locals. I have no interest in sitting on the floor eating whatever it is they eat ( Having smelt what my wife makes I have no wish to know what it is, let alone eat it ) while drinking alcoholic beverages and gossiping. Having been married to a Thai for some years, that seems to be their main social activity, other than watching tv soaps and immersing their face in a phone talking to all their "friends".

Also, I'm not a Buddhist, so the temple is out for me too.

 

Yes, I am a long stay tourist, and any farang that thinks otherwise, unless they have Thai citizenship, is, IMO, deluding themselves. Yes, we can live here, we can marry a Thai and have children with them, but we are not and never will be "Thai".

 

I like Thailand. I like the heat, I like the sanuk, I like that they leave me alone to do my thing, I like that public transport is easy, I like that cheap hotels are most places.

Of course there are things about Thailand that I don't like, there are things that really bug me, but compared to back home, this really is paradise.
