rooster59 Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 Suspected arsonist of Tesco Lotus released on the quiet - flies to Chiang Mai to enter monkhood Image: Daily News Sources have told the Thai press that the man accused of the arson attack at Tesco Lotus in Nakorn Sri Thammarat last Friday has been released quietly. No announcement was made as plain clothes officers escorted Sakkarin Khrihat, 32, to the airport where he boarded a flight to Don Muang in Bangkok. The trusted sources said that police even paid for the flight. Sakkarin then transferred to a Chiang Mai flight and was believed to be headed for his hometown in the Sankamphaeng district of the northern city. He was expected to enter the monkhood for seven days for what the Thai press said was "atonement". No charges were laid against Sakkarin at all, the sources noted. Meanwhile, police in Nakorn Sri Thammarat with help from other regions are stepping up their hunt for the people they believe are the arsonists. boomerangutang Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 Let me guess: he's from a hi-so family. Thais abhor disciplining Thais, particularly if from rich or VIP families. It's particularly evident re; politicians and anyone in uniform. The suspect entering the monkhood for a week for 'atonement' actually casts aspersions at the monkhood as much as Thai limp-wristedness. It's like Nom Sod (initial top suspect for double murder on Ko Tao two yrs ago) going to monkhood for a week - thereby being further untouchable by Thai authorities. Oh, and he was from a very rich family. Connect the dots.
johng Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 Was this the guy they plucked from the oil rig he was working on ?????

Reports in the media suggest he was in no way linked to the bombing and nobody knows why the police picked him up. There has never been any scrap of evidence presented for his arrest.
leeneeds Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 Like sand through the hour glass so are the days of our atonement Amazing that all governments don't implement this punishment , oh I forgot it only works if your Thai
ratcatcher Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 He was accused. He was not charged. He is now a free man. Sounds reasonable. He comes from the same village in CM as Thailand's 2nd most loved man. Meanwhile police are seeking the real arsonists.
Crossy Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 a post with potential for Lese Majeste has been hidden "I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

I think we have all seen the monkhood movie before. I could be wrong but I believe I heard that they had uncovered new evidence on this guy and wanted to re-arrest him. It is really generous of the police to buy him a ticket home. It would be interesting to know more about this guy's background to see if money played a part in his being released. This whole fiasco has smell of a payoff.

lostmebike Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 Suspected arsonist of Tesco Lotus released on the quiet - flies to Chiang Mai to enter monkhood ... where he'll regularly receive donations, 'tamboon' envelopes, from a gullible public that think by giving money that's 'going to good causes' will help them on their ultimate path to heaven yet will really be spent in Amazon, Starbucks, Robinson, Big C or Tesco to name just a few! (Maybe not Tesco) Guilty of arson or not, he's just about to become guilty of a huge, momentous fraud!

Alive Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 His arrest just shows the abuse and stupidity of the Thai authorities. They can screw up jailing people, harassing people and even kill people without any real interest of the people or their press. I wonder if this guy see a monk's garb safer than going back to his normal life.

prakhonchai nick Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 If he didn't do anything why should he go and be a monk for 7 days for "atonement"? All the villains, motorists causing accidents etc flee to an upcountry Wat. Wats are full of Monk clothed criminals, who then do the morning begging walk. What a farce!
Mickmouse1 Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 What does that mean? Either they have got the wrong man, hence releasing him and affording him VIP passage and a free flight because they did him wrong or he is a real VIP boy "the untouchable " Or....am I to rethink n ask why a week in monkhood? Is that 4 redemption or what? Declare the man innocent or explain yourselves! ?
JustNo Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 oh Thailand; where justice depends on wealth and money or the lack of it
SOTIRIOS Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 ...another travesty..... ...truth and justice have no bearing....

So the police paid for his flight? That is nice. Since when have the police paid for a person's flight? Obviously what is reported is just the tip of the iceberg.

Sounds reasonable and fair, but why was he released quietly and "escorted" to the airport and put on a paid (?) flight to Chiang Rai AND why does he suddenly feel the urge to join monkhood for 7 days?

Eric Loh Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 He should sue the government for wrongful arrest and detention.

dunroaming Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 If he was completely innocent then why has he been in police custody? Why was he released on the quiet? Why does he need to spend 7 days doing atonement? Smoke and mirrors etc.....
