Car bomb blast outside hotel in Thailand leaves one dead and 29 injured

By Julian Robinson

PATTANI: -- A car bomb blast outside a hotel in Thailand has left one dead and 29 injured, it has emerged.

The explosion happened near a hotel in the province of Pattani, an area popular with Western tourists in the country's south.

Pictures have emerged showing the remains of a building and a fire raging inside. The nationality of those caught up in the blast is not yet known, the Daily mail reported.

Don't think because its further south it's going to stay there.

Hotels are indicative of getting tourists .

Didn't take long this will now bite hard into their tourism industry .

The Government had assured you all was normal ...it is not.
They can't protect you.

Civil strife in Thailand is now under way.

I can only urge people travelling there to continue monitoring embassy and westerner media information.
Thailand appears to be entering a politically charged situation with backlash against its oppressive military junta increasingly likely.

Violence and bombings place tourists at risk.

This seems now a very clear indication a bombing campaign has begun .

Bombings like this happens on an  almost a daily basis in the Deep South and in 13 years it hasn`t spread further and hopefully it will never do.

I thought bombings in Pattani were (sadly) a bit normal.
I like to travel, and have been to 72 of the 76 provinces in Thailand.
Stayed away from Pattani, Narawat, and Yala as if they had the plague.

So, I don't know if your scaremongering is justified.

This from wikipedia under "south thailand insurgency":    Over 6,500 people died and almost 12,000 were injured between 2004 and 2015 in a formerly ethnic separatist insurgency, which has currently been taken over by hard-linejihadis and pitted them against both the Thai-speaking Buddhist minority and local Muslims who have a moderate approach or who support the Thai government.[8]

Something a bit odd with this report!

It's been running on a number of media sites in UK, Aus,  and NZ. But, there is nothing coming from Thai media!

It just did spread further, with bombings in phuket, hua hin and other provinces not in the south.

Not to mention the bombing at siam paragon and Koh Samui shopping mall a couple of years ago. By the averages, we can probably expect a bombing that is not confined to the south to be about once a year. The attacks get more serious as they progress. The southern fighters now realise that bombings in the south are lucky to get a 1 day mention in the media, but a bombing in Bkk or popular tourist areas will get them a lot of attention and can be used as a bargaining tool. Expect more of the same.

Can't wait for the govt.'s input on this one. :gigglem:

Umm,  err,  ehh,  ahh    well we assure the public that there's nothing to worry about as we have the matter under control  !

Oh,   and this will not affect tourism.

There isn`t any proof that the bombings mentioned  above has anything to do with the unrest in the Deep South.

Happens all the time in the south, but usually does not target tourists. Even in Pattani!

One killed, 30 wounded by explosions in southern Thailand: police

PATTANI: -- One Thai person was killed and 30 wounded when two bombs exploded late on Tuesday near a hotel in the southern Thai beach town of Pattani, police said, less than two weeks after a series of blasts hit the south.

The first blast in a parking lot behind the Southern Hotel caused no casualties, Police Lieutenant Colonel Winyu Tiamraj told Reuters on Wednesday. All the casualties were Thais.

"The second explosion came from a truck parked at the hotel entrance, opposite a karaoke bar and a massage parlor, resulting in one death and 30 injuries," he said.

Didn't the Police Chief say only yesterday 20 Muslims from the deep South were suspected of the bombings and also previous attacks in the South?

The bombings and fights between Muslims and Thais have gone on for years and to expect a stop is not realistic, the same for southern Philippines you still have bombings and kidnappings there even with us military presence. Tourist just have to stay away from those areas. The sad things is that wherever you are in the world including the US you have to keep out of the crowds and make sure you are aware of your surroundings. These radical Islamist have been around for decades and will not disappear, they just get more fuel from people like president to be Donald Trump.

it is possible the boss has the media on lock down on reporting any future bombings. guy has absolute control so it would not surprise me.

NZ Herald do not seem to have a clue about Pattani as even their own government issues travel warnings for that part of the country.

If you read the report it is from the Daily Mail, not the NZ Herald. All the NZ Herald has done is pick the story up.
