Van services to Bangkok

I use the vans to go to Bangkok every week. I don't need a lecture on the advisability of doing that. From October, the vans cannot go to, or stop at, Victory Monument any longer.  I have spoken with the various van service providers that I use, and they are all having to move to Mo Chit Bus Station (I'm not sure if they have been told to go to Mo Chit, or if they are choosing to use Mo Chit in preference to other bus stations).  Mo Chit is not really convenient for me, and probably not convenient for many people, as the bus station at Mo Chit is some distance from the BTS station, making it difficulty to transfer from van to BTS, and vice versa.

Does anyone have any knowledge of van services that will be going to Ekkamai, rather than to Mo Chit (or to anywhere else in central Bangkok) ?

There are certainly vans that go from Ekkamai to Pattaya as the drivers pester you when you enter the station to go to the ticket office.

So, they do exist.

Where they depart from in Pattaya is not known to me as I avoid vans like the plague.

I suggest that for your return trip next week, pop along to Ekkamai and take a van from there. Then you will know where they terminate in Pattaya.

Thanks for the info. I don't know Ekkamai at all, and didn't know that vans went from there to Pattaya. I thought it was just the big buses. I will give it a try, but hopefully someone will provide the answer(s) on here.

many vans depart from the Bangna-Trat / Sukhumvit corner. Not right next to a BTS stop, but easy to get to Bangna or Udomsuk BTS by a very short 9-Baht-Bus-ride or a 20/30 Baht motocy ride

Thank you, but do you know where they start from/go to in Pattaya ?

For anyone who might be interested, and who might be needing a new van service from October, I returned to Pattaya from Ekkamai yesterday.  There are vans from Ekkamai to Pattaya, but there were none at 2 pm yesterday. A friendly Thai guy, selling tickets to Rayong, informed me that the van company doing the Bangkok - Pattaya route from Ekkamai is only allowed 10 vans a day, and they had filled them all for yesterday. Therefore, no more vans to Pattaya.  I have no idea if this is true or not.

I returned with the big blue and white bus. 108 thb. It took 2.5 hours. Old bus, plastic seats, but a lot safer than the vans, I think.

Van or bus to Suvarnabhumi, airport link into the city and connect with BTS

agree, there is nothing more relaxing than the big Airport Bus with huge legroom and very very civilized drivers between Jomtien and Swampy. Great even if you actually want to go to BKK as u can hop on the Airport express to Phayathai or take a 558 and 552 Bus / van to other areas of BKK

Agreed 100%, but they don't start early enough.  I think the first bus is at 07.00 from Jomtien, and I have to start work in Bangkok at 08.30. I have wondered why there isn't an all-night bus service to the airport. Flights go, and arrive, 24hrs, so there might well be a call for such a service ?

now it's me to agree 100%, indeed the first Bus leaves at 7.00 am, which means, the earliest flight you can connect to is around 11 am if you don't want to risk missing it. That is utter nonsense - but as you know, we Farang just don't understand "Thainess" and all thinking and planning that comes with it

Don't be a cheap ass & take a taxi, it's only 800 baht to BKK and you will arrive exactly at your destination, in one piece and in more comfort. Flag it down from the street somewhere those pain in the ass taxi mafia guys won''t run to the taxi when you flag one down & get in. Or bring a friend along & split the 800 baht fare in half or make friends with some tourist who wants to go to bkk and spilt it with them.

I'm a cheap ass ?  I didn't ask for your criticism, or your rudeness. I asked for possible ways to get to BKK and back by van.

With respect, that's probably the worst  suggestion I have seen on the subject so far.  As my first post says, I go to BKK every week. You are suggesting I find someone to accompany me to BKK every week, at 05.30 in the morning ?  Really ?

So, the fare to central BKK is only 800 THB ?  If you can find me a taxi that will take me to BKK at 05.30 in the morning for 800 THB (or at any time for that price), I might use it from time to time.

I work in BKK for one day or two each week.  You are suggesting I pay out around 3,200 THB (if that was a possible fare) a month out of the fairly small salary I receive ?  How much do you think I'm getting paid each month  for working 4 days ? Thanks for your input, but it wasn't very helpful.

Nothing sensible to say then better say nothing at all  :whistling:

You will not get a taxi from Pattaya to central Bangkok (or vice versa) for 800 THB, no matter what time of day.

Obviously you have no idea & neither does anyone else saying 800 baht isn't possible. Have you even flagged a BKK taxi driving down the street in Pattaya? Maybe the taxi drivers took you for a sucker tourist & squeezed a few hundred baht extra from you. I always get 800 baht which includes taxi driver paying tolls back to Lower Sukhumvit and I do that once every month. Maybe you should learn some Thai and only speak to the driver in Thai so they don't take you for a sucker.

I agree, BKK to Pattaya is more expensive, always 1,200 baht with driver paying tolls but they will usually try to get you to pay tolls.

5:30m - ok you probably won't see any taxis driving around at that time looking to go back to BKK. But from about 10am onwards you should be able to wait on 2nd Road and flag down a BKK taxi & get the 800 baht.

If you work in BKK once a week, why doesn't the company you work for pay for the transportation? I'd be expecting a company I work for to pay for all those expenses.

In fact, now I've got a regular BKK taxi driver I send a message to for a BKK-Patt-BKK route. He will drive all the way to Pattaya from BKK to take me back to BKK for 1,000 baht (he pays tolls). Saves time waiting to flag down a taxi from the street even if it costs 200 baht more. And no, I won't give out his details as I don't want to have problems with other people using him when I need it.
