BANGKOK:-- The head of the police team investigating the hacking of the Government Savings Bank says that Thais were definitely involved with the eastern European gang.

Some 12 million baht was stolen from 21 ATMs in the south and Bangkok when the gang introduced malware onto machines and managed to extract cash.

The Europeans have since escaped abroad after the thefts in July and earlier this month.

Panya Mamen, head of the police investigation, yesterday visited one of five ATMs hit in Bangkok at Viphawadee Soi 44. The machine was visited three times on July 29th and 30th and 560,000 baht stolen.

But CCTV at the scene proved to be useless. Footage at an ATM in Sukhumvit Soi 23 was clear, however, and is helping police with a lead in the case helping them understand the movements of the gang.

Panya said: "We are sure that Thai people are involved in some capacity and there will be news about this next week when we hope to issue a warrant".

I simply refuse to believe that. :coffee1: Only farangs can be so bad and so anti-Buddhist and hate Thailand to want to do this. :w00t:

You clearly do not understand what the good policeman is saying, simply, this is a sophisticated hi-tech victimless crime and simpleminded eastern europeans lack the intellectual ability to undertake such a crime. Without, of course the guidance of the smartest poeple in the world.

Yes Thais were involved in it, they were tasked with carrying the sacks of money

around, and probably helping with the cars and hotels

don't think that they were the one to introduce the malware to the ATM, way above

the locals pay grade.....

Do you mean "WE" are on the top of the list?

I suspect "we" may be on the top of a list, but not this one. Tin foil hats at the ready.

I was giving credit to the professional ability of the BIB of course     :whistling:

However I'm sure many members of this forum do feature on a list because...  well we know why   !   :gigglem:

"   Bad boys,  bad boys

watcha gonna do,   watcha gonna do when they come for you,   bad boys   ?   "

Catchy them song for us don't you think   ?

how was the "bug" introduced to ATM machines>>?? ... no USB ports, no blue tooth, no yellow teeth, no WiFi at the machine itself , so obviously a network penetration from within the GSB organization ...

Nothing to do with Thais, just go to Youtube for a few lessons on hacking and how to override the ATM's basis program.  If Thais knew how to hack then every ATM in the country would be empty. Thais know only how to steal the ATMs, tow them away and the bank employees filling the machines know how to steal the money now and again.

It is not a bug, the on board Windows program is simply given new instructions to do something else, it's like gaining root access, the person just overrides all previous instructions.

I read somewhere that they used an ATM-sized card to introduce the malware.

White man's computer wizardry baffles computer ignorant Thai policeman. If you are truly baffled best to say nothing rather than make a fool of yourself saying something stupid that will be proved wrong within a few days.

The recent bombs story is a good example of stupid statements.

Time to play "pin the tail on the donkey" sans blindfold

you have to commence action those who can be identified as being responsible for the crime. subsequent interrogation may throw up further leads about the identities of the foreigners involved.

1) " Best we confiscate the machines, and their contents. what do they call it in the movies. evidence or something like that?"

2) How frustrating, so close to all that cash and I can't get my hands on it......

No cctv footage, bad atm photos, gang shot through o/s.What is it exactly you think they can do.Come on,easy to slag off,but have you got a clue, just 1.This is more sophisticated than the usual atm skim scam.Plus the gang had the brains to get out, don't be too greedy.
