M-Society says strong family bonds can stop violence

  

BANGKOK, 8 September 2016 (NNT)-The Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security Maitri Inthusutr, said today a strong community must come from loving families. 

Speaking during a weekly program ‘Thailand Moving Forward’, Mr. Maitri spoke about the implementation of a ‘Strong Community, No Violence’ project in which he reiterated that strong family bonds provide a basis for strong communities within society. 

The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security will place great emphasis on passing the knowledge of His Majesty the King’s sufficiency economy concept and good governance principles on to the communities. The Permanent Secretary urged all sectors to unite and support the project. 

He claimed five factors; including alcohol, narcotics, unemployment, social media and bad tempers, are causes of violence in Thai society. Mr. Maitri indicated it could be prevented best within a strong family unit. 

His ministry has also established family development centers in 1,000 sub-districts to facilitate the project's implementation regionally. It will open more centers in 3,000 more sub-districts over the course of the next year.

Isn't it ironic that a lot of violence based on drug abuse, drinking, short (i.e. bad) tempers, addiction to social media and online gaming, etc. actually occurs WITHIN the family unit? The daily news tell a very clear story, Mr. Maitri.

 

Also, how conducive is it to forming a "strong family unit" when daddy thinks it is his god-given right to keep as many mia nois as he pleases or that he can father children that he is not prepared to care for, running off instead as soon as they are born?

 

Lastly, how does it contribute to forming "strong family units" when boys are taught that they're little kings who can do whatever they want, while girls are brainwashed that it is their eternal duty to care for mommy and daddy and everybody else in the family by whatever means necessary?

 

Your theory, Mr. Maitri, sounds good on paper, but sadly doesn't reflect the realities that prevail in many Thai families. In order to change this situation, cultural values must change. But then again, you wouldn't know better, Mr. Maitri, because you're a Thai male, too. Isn't that right?

Strange he didn't mention Lakorn TV dramas. Some pretty fine examples of domestic violence on those shows.

 3000 more centers? What we need here is the Hub word or a new committee will be formed.

Most of the points made are a worldwide problem and not restricted to Thai society and violent behaviour towards women.

How can unemployment be cited as a cause - it's virtually nonexistent according to the Minister of Commerce.
