......there's usually a floater doing backstroke!

Some asian cultures feel the noises made when using the toilets is offensive & embarrassing - so they flush the toilet to mask the noise....

 

A few that I've known actually had white noise machines they'd use when in the bathroom.....

 

Obviously not a Chinese custom I'm thinking....

 

Mosquitos also probably are a reason.....I avoid using  the downstairs bathroom & go use one of the ones upstairs because there always seem to be some mosquitos lurking in the darker downstairs bath.....

Mum and Dad came up from OZ, for a visit - this was 21 years ago, but remains vivid...

 

We did a week's Limo trip down to Singapore and back, and were not far from getting back to the border,

- we were by now, in Alor Setar M'sia, and Dad's prostate was giving him the...

 

Go through the servo cafe, to the dunny complex out back.

 

I went in after Dad, and he was just about to walk back out, when I noticed he wasn't coming from the p***trough.

 

I wide-eyed asked him where he did it?

 

He pointed over to the BIG water tank (looks like a big square inside pond/bath

 

"oh no - you didn't -  there?...."  pointing, grimacing... 

 

 

"whadda ya mean?"  he responds

 

I had to explain to him, that wasn't a toilet,

- but was the fresh water storage pit, from which water was drawn for personal washing etc etc

 

Red faced - he dashes out behind me, as we scurry back to the Limo.

 

He was really Flushed Red - but I calmed him, with the thought that no one else saw him...

 

Now that would have meant a huge Water Bill, if the next person had to Flush before going (or drinking)...

 

 

but in this case, we'd hope they did!!!
