webfact Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 Early warning system installed at 14 dams to ensure dam safety BANGKOK: -- The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat) has cooperated with the National Electronics and Computer Technology Centre (Nectec) in developing a remote sensing system to ensure the safety of dams. Egat’s deputy governor for business development Mr Atthaporn Wattanavisut said Tuesday that the system would provide update information about the conditions of dams around-the-clock so that officials in charge of the dams would be able to deal with emergency situations immediately. For instances, he said that sensor device in the system will be able to detect leakages, movements or subsidence of dams and relay the information to the RTU and then to the computer network. robblok Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 At the same time i read about a neglected floodwal in Ayuttaya. I wonder if its easier to skim from new projects as doing maintenance on old ones. I find it strange that they don't do maintenance on something like that what is vital.

Many dams, all over the world, don't have these sensors, makes you wonder why Thailand is installing them, oh, wait, someone 's going to make a lot of money out of it.
MaxLee Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 Just another attempt to protect BKK and flooding the rest of Thailand as usual....

williamgeorgeallen Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 each sensor is a phone with a sign 'ring this number if you seeing this dam about to fail'
