90 Day Report Slip Missing From Passport

Hi everyone

My lawyer returned my passport last week after having it for around 4 months. He was extending my 3-month initial non-B to a 12 month visa based on my new work permit.

 

I got the visa extension OK so that's not the issue. He told me the passport had to go to immigration in Phuket and onwards to Bangkok for the extension stamp so it was a large concern that I did not have my passport for so long. But that is not the issue either.

 

Not long after he took my passport, a 90-day report was due in mid-July. He messaged me a couple of days before to say he had done the 90-day report for me and it next expired on 9th October.

However, when my passport was returned last week, I checked straight away and the 90-day report slip was not in the passport. He does not know where it is. I have never actually seen this latest 90-day report slip but I have no reason to believe he didn't do it, so the assumption is he did the 90-day report in July as he said and the slip just got lost in transit.

So my question: when I go to immigration later this week for this next 90-day report, what, if any, are the implications of not having the current 90-day report slip in the passport....?

There shouldn't be any problem. I only ever complete the TM.47 and hand over my passport without the previous report slip. Some offices only require the passport.

I am wondering why the passport had to go to Bangkok from Phuket (Most unusual)

 

Stamps are usually issued locally even if there is an "under consideration" stamp in the passport.

 

Are you certain that what you have is genuine?

Reckon you'll find out if the 90-day report was done, yes if they do not say you owe a baht 2,000 fine for not having done so.....

I don't know about Phuket, but the office that I use, Nakhon Sawan, resets the 90 days on the date that the extension is issued.  My next 90 day report is always 90 days from the date of the extension no matter what the old date was!

That's the way I thought it worked, since I gave my address on the extension I didn't think it was necessary to do the 90 report, but then I had to pay the 2000 baht fine.

Very few offices reset the 90 day report date when you do an extension. If they don't do a new report slip it is not reset.

I did my last 90 day report (by mail) 20 days after I applied for my extension. Askrd  them if they would do it early they said no since it was longer than 15 days.

That's odd!  Unless I'm mistaken, which I could be, in a post some time ago you stated that your office set the date of the last report the same day as your extension was due even if it was less than 90 days, the same as mine does.  Now it's changed?

They were doing that a couple of years ago. But now do them for the entire 90 days.

I could of done my extension later and been able to both at the same time but it would of been to close to the date my extension ended and I did not feel comfortable waiting.

It also depends on the particular immigration official who processes your next 90-day report.  

Even within the same office, I've had some ignore the missing slip; and another time, one infamous lady official went ballistic, threatening "a 5,000-baht fine."   T.I.T.

I do mine by mail as on line doesn't work for me since the last time I entered the country was in 2003.  My last report was due 17 September.  I sent it EMS it on 12 September and got the return back dated 13 September with the next report date of 6 November, 54 days, the same date that my current extension expires.

No mention of jail in the immigration act.

Only passport required.

Not interested in the last report slip, because everything is now stored on computer file, so a new print out of my next report date took all of 30 seconds.

It's been that way at Muk for quite some time...but yesterday, there was a big dust up because I didn't have the form. Plus they made copies of numerous pages of my passport, which they never done before. What's up? It took 15 minutes to do my 90 day. Last time, with the old crew, it was about 2 minutes and hassle free, not to mention very friendly, which this visit was not.

 

Are they (Immigration across the country) going back to insisting on the paper form even though they have all the info in their database? Or is this just Muk returning to their old ways?

 

I think I'll just make a crossing into Lao & hit the duty free for some cheaper alcohol and get a new departure card on my return. That way I'll only have to deal with them once a year.

Lao visa fee (1,500B per visit last time I checked), plus Thai Immigration re-entry permit fee (1,000B per entry, or 3,800B for multi-entry).  That route can get a bit expensive, can't it?

Not true.  It depends on what officer checks you out.  The rules are applied inconsistently or are made up as they go, which is nothing new to long-timers here on Thai Visa.

Yep...That's why I haven't been out of the country, especially to Lao. But if I have to pay 2500Bt for re entry permit & visa to Lao, that's a small price to pay to only have to deal with Muk immigration one time per year.

Referring to the original who's passport was with his lawyer for 4 months,...Is it not against the law to NOT have your passport with you at all times?

It is true. There is no official fine (rule) for losing a report slip. Your comment and link are irrelevant to my post.

I clarified my point to make it easy for you to understand, but with or without the clarification my point is still true.

 

I have never heard of anyone being fined for not having their last notification receipt or slip advising the next report date. The only obligation we have is to report if staying more than 90 days and to report within 97 days.

 

You are unnecessarily introducing corruption into the discussion and scaremongering. We all know corruption exists, and we can potentially be victims with any interaction with one of the few dishonest IO's.

Phuket just did reset my 90-day clock a week ago (with a new slip), when I renewed my retirement extension. They haven't done this in the past though.
