Profiling (not just racial) can be very beneficial in crime investigation. If for example 80 per cent of all burglaries in a given area have been committed by those of a certain (for example) age group or skin colour, then it is entirely reasonably that prevention measues (such as stop and search) are 80 per cent directed at that group. Targetting a certain racial or age group without any supporting evidence to target them would however be wrong.

No different to age, sex or distinguishing marks profiling.

If a witness reports seeing a middle aged black man at the scene of the crime there is little point interviewing teenage white females..

As usual criminals (and their apologists) are upset when they are targeted and arrested..  Of course the thousands of non-white criminals in jail ( far in excess of their percentage in society ) may all be innocent and are there purely because of blatant racism.

It also bothers those who think that they might be wrongly convicted.

and those that take literally the commandment "Thou shalt not kill".
