BANGKOK, 8 October 2016 (NNT) – The Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC) is urging the country's lawmakers to complete the present impeachment processes ahead of the promulgation of the permanent charter.

CDC chairperson Meechai Ruchuphan said on Friday that the new constitution does not provide a mechanism to impeach political office holders; therefore, the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) must end all impeachment cases before the new constitution takes effect next month.

He warned that all pending impeachment cases will be dismissed once the new charter is enforced.

In reference to the Election Commission's (EC) organic bill, the chairperson said the electoral body, not the Ministry of the Interior, will be in charge of general elections. However, the EC will serve as a watchdog during local elections.

So what it actually means is, speed this up, get our opposition convicted and penalised then promulgate the new constitution that will protect us from prosecution.  Granting a blanket amnesty, article 44 and the new constitution protecting political office holders, talk about building an impregnable shield around yourselves.

What happened to the road map of uniting the country and returning happiness to ALL?  It now looks very clear that it is them and us.

They should be able to speed things up now - after rushing through a bill increase their number from 220 to 250 members (by a vote of 189-0 with three abstentions) in August, and it's just been announced that 28 of the 33 new NLA members—handpicked by the junta chief—are military and police generals, most of them still active...

Nice cushy position if one can get it—no experience, qualifications, nor skills necessary—however, NLA members do not receive "salaries." Instead, each member receives a "position allowance" of 71,230 baht, plus an extra unspecified allowance of 42,330 a month, totalling 113,560 baht per month. (Two years ago DPM Wissanu said that a state officials can not receive salaries from more than one source - but may accept unlimited "position allowances" and other compensation so long as the payments are not called a "salary." )

"Position Allowance", gotta love the creativity. And if they are on a committee they get 1,500 per meeting. Plus they can employ three family members "experts" at up to 24,000 per month.

Not hard to understand that they are all jockeying for the 150 seats in the future upper house.

Yep, I bet they think they're so clever because no one clued on!

Prayuth: "Yep, that looks legit"

A bit like Feng Shui (sign on a black car: "this car is green").

These aren't the legislators you're looking for, waving hand.

Seriously, how hard can it be to "pass" this impeachment law? If you're red, your impeached for life. If you're yellow or green, amnesty for you.

If they are getting rid of the Impeachment process,

I hope hey are going to replace it with a law that can

bring errant MPs  to book,as it's going to increase

corruption otherwise.

regards worgeordie      PS, how many impeachment cases are outstanding ?

The fact that there will be no impeachment law any more confirms that they are sure to be in power (or one of their puppets) whatever the voters' choice, thanks to the appointed senate.

Same for the law restricting protests and the computer law. They did not create these laws to prevent protests or critics against a red government, did they?
