SAMUI: -- A baying crowd of some 500 people gathered at Bo Phut police station on Sunday as a Thai woman charged with lese majeste was understood to be at  the station.

As soldiers were brought in and the traffic sealed off, the crowd refused to disperse until the woman was brought out to prostrate herself in front of a picture of His Majesty in forgiveness, reported Daily News.

Even when she had done this the crowd were dissatisfied - they yelled that she had not shown enough contrition.

As a lynching situation threatened the police were obliged to make her do it again in front of the crowd. When this was done to their satisfaction they moved away from the area.

The Chumporn woman - named only as Umaporn, 43 - was arrested Sunday on a warrant. She allegedly offended Article 112 of the penal code after posts appeared on Facebook.

One of the crowd, Duangkamon Phetmanee, said that everyone loved the king, he had done great deeds and no one had the right to criticize him.

Police assured the public said that the case was proceeding according to the law.
