Renewing 5 years drivers license ...what papers are needed?

I currently have a 5 year drivers license that's expiring in 3 weeks. What documents do I need to renew it?

I'm on a 1-year multiple entry non-immigrant visa (not extended, I leave and come back every 3 months). Can I still get a "residence confirmation" letter from immigration? I assume that's needed plus passport sized photos? Anything else?

Thanks

Did  this last week in Bangkok close to On Nut....next BTS  down.

Passport, Yellow  book, old  driving licence was  all I needed but probably find theyll all interpret it differently.

You will have to sleep thru the amusing yet useless video whilst you are there and do the equally useless brake test, vision test etc its  like something out of the ark

I guess it's not the same everywhere, but I did my 5-year renewal last week in Rayong. There they wanted my expiring licence, passport, copy of the photo-page and current residence stamp pages of the passport and a residence letter from Immigration - the latter had to be presented at the reception desk in the main building for "authentification" with a blue stamp before the application was accepted at the window receiving applications. Presumably they think that somebody may counterfeit a residence letter(!) I also presented a medical certificate but they didn't want it.

After handing in documents, got a ticket with a queue number. Then a short wait for colour chart and braking tests, followed by a short coffee break before going to the interminable video/lecture. Thereafter queue up and pay for the application, wait again to be photo'd and stand by the little machine for a couple of minutes until it spits out the new card.

It took just on four hours altogether, but there were a  lot of people there.

By the way, a small hint for those applying for the upgrade from one-year to five-year licence. Do it before the one-year expiry date. At the start of the lecture one woman was called out to the front, handed back her application and told to leave the room. According to my wife the lecturer said that as her licence was out of date she must re-apply for another one-year licence and undergo all the requisite tests. I don't think this also applies to 5-year renewals as my wife herself renewed hers out of time earlier in the year.

Now that is funny because in Chiang Mai they won't renew your licence until your old one is expired by one day, i've had that experience.   However; like most things in this country every Government establishment has its own way of implementing the rules or making them up as they go along !
