Also, even if MITM proxy is indeed being used, MITM proxy is normally being used for different purposes. How can you determine they record everything with it? However they did not made this MITM system to fake speedtest results. 2) Thailand IT crimes law is serious. They have to record online activity. Especially what people wrote on public forums etc like pantip.com and others. 3) MITM proxy helps bypassing ISP throttling on port 80. So, normally I get better speeds when I use https on port 443, because it is encrypted and harder to throttle. It actually means he has a non-shared (at the time of lease) public IP address, not necessarily a dedicated IP (which always stays the same) and if his IP changes regularly it is not dedicated. On CGNAT you get both a shared public IP address which sits before the CGNAT and another NAT IP address, normally in the 100.x.x.x range which is between the CGNAT and your home router/modem and then your home NAT, if exist, is in charge of the rest of the local LAN IP addresses, usually via its DHCP. I've bitched at AIS so much over the last month about why ain't my international speeds as good as they use to be one of the things they did was take me from behind the CGNAT....gave me a public IP address which didn't help with my issue as far as I can see. A public IPv4 address would be very handy for me as I have quite a few services that require one. I run these through True connection right now as they still provide a public IPv4 address. If @Pibconnection is off the CGNAT (a good thing indeed) I am guessing he gets the IP leased using PPPoE on his modem, so switching the modem off and back on (or re-dialing) will probably provide a new public IP, still off the CGNAT. Worth testing. P.S. TV really needs to change this black text on dark blue tag color in the forum stylesheet... Yea, when I switch to the Power4 200/50 plan in early Sep the Power4 advertisement only identified HooQ as no longer being free after 12 months if signing up for the Bt1799 or Bt1999 Power4 plans. There was no "free for X months" shown for the Platinum HD, SIM card, Wifi, etc....only the HooQ was shown with a free for 12 months for these two plans. To me that implied come renewal time and if the plan just rolls over automatically I would still be getting the same deal with the exception of HooQ would now add Bt129/mo to the cost if I wanted to keep HooQ. See below what their ad use to say....note where I circled HooQ which was the only item that was identified as free for X-month meaning all other items were just standard in the package. Since my only choice for Fiber Optics/DOCSIS high speed plans in my moobaan is AIS or True, I would probably stay with AIS since they would still be cheaper than True DOCSIS 100Mb plan with Gold or Platinum packages add-on . And AIS knows they still have a cost advantage over True for high speed internet and premium TV packages...this is probably why these new Power4 packages are coming out that are not as good as the earlier Power4 packages. However, but, I've heard rumors True may be lowering prices comes Dec/Jan in trying to get some customers back who jumped boat to AIS and others when True raised prices of their TV packages even though losing the HBO channels to AIS. In fact, after we (the wife and I) left True we got a call from them a few weeks later trying to get us back on board but we said no due to their pricing and lack of HBO channels....and the rep said, well, come December True may have new/lower pricing coming out....the wife told the rep to call back in Dec with new/lower pricing and we'll talk about it then, but until goodbye. Ais is really shooting themselves in the foot when it comes to their recent changes, first they really messed up something with the international bandwidth which has been slow ever since , then they are planning to limit/lock the playbox capabilities to run only their apps and now they are downgrading their packages with platinum now only being 6 months free. generally speaking there packages and offerings are quite confusing too, like what happens when your contract ends or free months of platinum ends , what happens to the free 4g sim after 12 months etc.. still remember those old days when Ais was a startup in the broadband business and their packages were the most attractive/cheapest for the speed and they really set themselves as a price leader in the isp market when it came to attractive packages. For example, let's say I signed up today for the AIS Fibre 200/50 at Bt1999 plan which is a 200/50 internet plan, a premium TV package with HooQ, an unlimited 6Mb speed SIM, and unlimited Wifi. But after 6 months with the premium TV part no longer being free the price goes another Bt899....now the total monthly price is Bt2,898/mo. OK, let's go over to True and see what a similar plan would cost. Their 200/50 plan with Gold TV package, 4Mb speed SIM, and free Wifi is Bt2,699/mo....cheaper than above AIS competing plan. And if we replaced the Gold TV package with the Platinum package the cost would be Bt3,099...not that much more than above AIS competing plan. Me beginning to think AIS Fibre's days of undercutting True prices by big amounts are over....now AIS Fibre is coming more inline with True's pricing. AIS better watch out....my True cable/DOCSIS is still in my house and still connected to their DOCSIS trunk line on the soi...other than the True installer bringing out a cable modem and TV box to hook to my True line on the inside of my home (no other installation required) I could be back online with them in a heartbeat. Having a small speed testing relapse...posting these just for AIS 200/60 comparison to above 3BB 200/100 using the same Nperf HTML5 speed tester and to the same locations of Singapore, London, and San Francisco. The plans have the same download speeds but different upload speeds. Testing done around 9:35pm Thailand time. I get other SMSs, like on 22 and 23 Oct, from AIS Fibre...just haven't got above SMS yet. Maybe they don't want to send me the SMS because they know I will bitch at them (like they care). I doubt they send it to customers manually and singled you out. Maybe you are flagged as an English SMS only customer (?) and they sent it only in Thai language, so you didn't receive it. Or it will only apply to Playboxes installed 20 Nov and after. Time will tell. But I'm going to guess they will push out an update which will force the change. And yes, they can see and update Playboxes from upstream. Like one time around a year ago I called the AIS Fibre call center with some curiosity Playbox questions....the AIS rep said he sees my Playbox is on LAN port 1 versus port 4 where it normally should be for some reason. I said yes it's on Port 1 since the AIS installer plugged the Playbox into Port 1 and I had not moved it. Later I moved it to Port 4. But now, my AIS-provided router is in Bridge mode (which AIS changed from router mode to bridge more from their end) and the only thing plugged to it is a connection between it's LAN 1 bridged port to the WAN input of my Asus router...then all my devices to include Playbox connect to the Asus router. But I expect even my setup will not stop a forced update to the Playbox. Plus a couple of months ago AIS pushed an update to their AIS-specific HooQ app on the Playbox....not pushed from Google Play which only has the Mobile HooQ version which is completely different and will not work on the Playbox if you want to continue to receive HooQ for free for X-amount of months. Yeap, AIS can easily push forced updates to their routers and Playboxes. P.S. The AIS Fibre SMSs I get are sometimes in Thai and sometimes in English. I have told the them several times just over the last few months to ensure my account is set to English...they say it is set to English. But the two latest SMSs I got from AIS Fibre were still in Thai. I expect some of their SMSs only go out in Thai regardless of the language setting they have you account coded for.
