BANGKOK — One of Bangkok’s busiest traffic flyovers will be shut down later this month for demolition to make way for a new elevated rail line.

The Ratchayothin intersection overpass will be closed at 10am on Nov. 22 for demolition to begin four days later, according to the Mass Rapid Transport Authority, or MRTA.

So they're going to build a tunnel ,when? Will it flood? Why not sort it first ,did they not know about it ? The reporting is typical Thai with lack of information

Well considering the have tunnels just down the road on Ratchada, that have been there for many years and are not known for major flooding - so I guess they will be OK

Hold on Hoss they are going to build a new ELEVATED rail line. You can ride over the road instead of walking.

<deleted>!? just like that? clearly, nobody is thinking at the MRTA! i better start training myself to start walking to and from the office. this will be a disaster

They announced they were going to build a tunnel years ago.the question was when -  at first it looked as though they were going to do it at the same time as the knockdown of the Kaset flyover but it was delayed. Now comes the real test for traffic in the area that is already extremely bad. Expecting people to use the back sois is just the mrta saying we havent got a clue what to do.

Demolition still hasn't started...

...they're delaying...

what with a little bit of tea  money changing hands;

one might later on - wake up to hear they are laying down Tracks on the old overpass

Drove over it this morning.... it's the 28th and it's still not knocked down!   So much for the announcement of its demolition on the 26th.

They have already started blocking off traffic during the day, causing major jams right outside my condo that now lasts throughout the day, rather then the standard jam hours. Funnily enough, they open it late at night.

It's gonna be an excruciating few months... I hope it's months...

It was closed last night - in both directions - and then open this morning!  I don't think even they know what they are doing!
