Opinion poll gives Trump a one point lead

WASHINGTON: -- An opinion poll has put Donald Trump ahead of Hillary Clinton with less than a week to go before the November 8 US presidential election.

The Republican scored a one point lead (46%) over his Democratic rival (45%) in a random telephone survey of just over 1100 likely voters. ( ABC/Washington Post)

Democratic campaign aids have dismissed the result.

Both main candidates have been out and about drumming up support in crucial swing states. With analysts predicting early voters are more likely to have backed Clinton, Trump is urging them to change their ballots.

“So if you live here, or in Michigan or Pennsylvania or Minnesota, those four places, you can change your vote to Donald Trump and we’ll make America great again, ok? She is not going to make America great again,” Trump urged voters.

The fours states Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota and Pennsylvania do allow early vote switches but the practice is extremely rare, according to the Early Voting Information Center at Reed College.

In a show of support for his former US Secretary of State, President Barack Obama has hit the campaign trail. With Clinton wounded by FBI email disclosures, its hoped Obama can work some of his magic.

“Has she made mistakes? Of course, so have I. There is nobody in the public arena over the course of 30 years who doesn’t make some, but she is a fundamentally good and decent person who knows what she’s doing and will be an outstanding president,” encouraged President Obama.

Meanwhile Clinton has been concentrating on swing state Florida. Her aids are telling her win there and its in the bag Back in 2000 it was where an election was won and lost, the state could be centre stage once again.

Previously mighty USA is going through voluntary annexation of Russian ideology and is becoming  Neo Russia. Oh boy they will be angry when they finally understand that the western establishment was not there to work agains, but for them.

When the democracy is replaced by authoritarian rule, when the stores are getting empty of supplies, the way they were during Soviet era, boy they will be angry.

When the previously mighty old USA has pissed off all their western partners, the way Duterte has done for Philippines, boy they'll wonder why nobody likes us anymore.

They will be angry, but won't say anything. They don't say as they can't. It's illegal to criticise the Neo Russian government, just like it's in the Russia.

Best of luck previously mighty USA, you'll need it.

Not yet. But in case USA is going to take a leap back in time and separate itself from the previously western values, others will have to look forward.

This change will most likely cause EU to look for a new best friend. That would naturally be China, which is going forward. China is far from being perfect, but at least their direction is correct.

With Hillary's close ties with big pharma and corporate companies I fail to see how the Democrats can be termed leftist!! I agree with what you say about the UK brexit result however which done away with Cameron.

Hilary has admitted that she has two sides on many issues, a public one and a private one. Just like Obama, she pretends to be for the little guy, but favors big business almost every time.

Fear not, it's hopeless for the USA but it's not serious.

China is already a 21st century fascist state and is only going deeper in to it.

Diawa Securities looked last year at the CCP capital posture and concluded that by 2020 China's state corporate Party economy is projected to be off minus 20% from where it is now, and it is presently only slowing, slowing, slowing, amidst several bubbles beginning with a $24 Trillion property bubble.

This election in the USA shall pass too. China is far removed from being modern or future oriented.

The trend does appear to be his friend at the moment (and if you're only going to have a "moment", this would definitely be the one to have...), but poll numbers don't really tell the electoral votes story.  I don't think he's got 'em.  He's gotta' pull every swing state and maybe a significant blue one (like PA) as well.

HRC is at 54.7% of the two-party vote which is the little known but key indicator in every Potus election since 1900.

The candidate that gets the majority of the two-party-only vote is the winner, every time to the present. The guy who gets less than 50% of it is the loser...ask Mitt Romney and John McCain most recently.

The range is 55% to 45% since 1900...nothing outside of the ten-point range.

OB in 2012 got 52.0% of the two-party vote and in 2008, OB got 53.7% of it.

Winner takes all and HRC with 54.7% is knocking on the door of the upper margin of 55%.

Trump has certainly closed the gap in the last week, but it comes down to the electoral college and he needs to pull just about every swing state to win the election

Hillary just needs to pick up a couple to win

Given that, if I were a betting man, I would still wager Hillary has a better chance of winning

Although still to close to call for certain

Yes invest in China and its Ouija board economy. In the west you can slice and dice government numbers but in China with the as they say in Star Wars "make it so" economy youse pays your money on investments and really take your chances.

DT must think he doesn't get any black supporters attending his rallies. Better off to just call them thugs and eject them. Heck, he is ahead in this poll (1 point) and doesn't need the minority vote.

Trump booted a black man from his rally and called him a ‘thug.’ Turns out he is a supporter.

Just the same as most of the rest of the world. Wrong and shocked.

Taught me one thing. Never underestimate the stupidity of people.

Don't worry.  Don't fret.  It only took America 8 years to figure out they were going in the wrong direction and now they have spoken with a vengeance.  Executive orders - gone.  Obamacare - gone.  Supreme Court Justices 4 new ones and the future secure for the next half century.
