BANGKOK, 4 November 2016 (NNT) – The new governor of Bangkok is set to announce new governance policies with an emphasis on practicality, while driving forward the sidewalk regulation campaigns.

Governor of Bangkok Pol Gen Atsawin Kwanmuang revealed he had recently called a meeting with vice governors and officials to prepare for the announcement of Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s (BMA) new governing policies which must be practical, realistic and implementable.

Officials have been appointed to gather information on the new policies, such as solutions to traffic congestion, elder care and support, and improvements to education. The new management will also proceed with the ongoing projects such as enforcing pavement regulations.

The new policies are expected to be announced within this month, and set the principle guidelines for BMA’s operations.

On this matter, the newly appointed Deputy Governor of Bangkok Pattarut Tantaranon has said the BMA will continue to proceed ongoing and unfinished projects, while new projects will be formulated from the needs of the public and the government, and will follow the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s royal teachings.

Wonder who gets to define "practical"

What could be more practical than the hitherto policy of announcing impossible or risible projects, then "redirecting" a substantial proportion of the allocated budgets for personal gain of important but un-namedThai people in Bangkok.??

Seems eminently practical already.......

Go on, you know the answer to that already..........

It is your lawyer instinct - never ask a question to which you don't already know the answer.

You could be right.

Do you think he will compose some up lifting songs?

What about markets where i see electric cables/connectors laying in puddles of water? Mai pen lai right?

Or very low iron pins sticking out of metal frames? Or very low sharp edged busstop signs on the sidewalks?

Or sinkholes under the sidewalks which already have made deep holes, how long before it gets fixed?

And why did they paint zebra's on the road if they have no function in Thailand only?

When will the bins come back on the streets? Or at least ashtrays? Even in the malls there's no bin, why not place one next to a security guard?

Maybe also they can put some roadsigns for pedestrians in the city? It's no fun to get lost while very warm.

Driving against traffic will still be legal right? Of course, we don't want a 2nd Singapore, yes i know where swampy is.

"Officials have been appointed to gather information on the new policies". The first thing these officials are likely to do is hold a meeting to decide where they will hold the inaugural meeting and what the buffet luncheon menu will comprise. Then they will get down to the nitty-gritty of fixing Bangkok's traffic problems, motorbike paths (sometimes known as footpaths, sidewalks or pavements), looking after the oldies and eliminating corruption within the education system. Forgive me if I sound cynical.

The rest of the world is well past taking these public pronouncements and meetings and grand public statements seriously.  People with real working brain cells stopped buying the crap years & years ago.  If you're really going to do something, save the posturing for the Friday night karaoke and just DO it!
