KHON KAEN: -- A raiding party of police and soldiers busted two casinos in downtown Khon Kaen yesterday.

Complaints had been received from the public after they were reported for their "brazen" operations that ran 24 hours a day, reports Daily News.

The first raid took place at the Hia Tee shop in Na Meuang Raod near the Fairy Plaza department store.

Here the authorities found baccarat being played and a large foreign football betting operation with a turnover thought to be not less than 10 million baht a day.

Cops seized 16 computers and the details of 500 football betting accounts and passcodes.

Seven punters and the owner - Suriya Suwantharn, 46 - were taken in to the station. Some 93,464 baht was also taken into evidence.

The operation is believed to have direct links to the casino in Poi-Pet over the border.

The next raid followed at DNN Sport shop behind the Kosa Hotel on Soi 25 of Reun Rom Road where there was evidence of betting on foreign football matches.

A flat screen TV, 11 computers, 3,685 baht and 150 membership details were taken into evidence.

Two punters and the owner - 25 year old SananThachat - were arrested.

Police and soldiers said the syndicates were operating brazenly, 24 hours a day, and they were acting after complaints from locals.

I would doubt the operators "brazen" operation was so brazen......the cops would have been quite ok with the casinos, but they didn't consider the army:)

The last few casinos raided in Khon Kaen were Police owned !

An estimate of at least 10 million a day turnover in the first place they raided. No wonder the 'untouchables' (who also make and/or uphold the laws :cheesy:) don't want to legalise casinos. They'd lose billions.

So...How long has this been going on...?

Technically, years, but once they get caught, the rest find another venue.

I live near to some that have been raided in the past, and to be honest, if you are not purposely looking for them, you would not know they exist.

If those bl00dy foreigners did not play football, we would not have these problems.

10,000,000 day? How can they move that sort of money around on a daily basis?

Living in Khon Kaen I can tell you, the old ways are out.  Things you used to see and think how is that happening are now gone.

Only because the army is in control.. they just crack down on places owned or protected by the police cutting in their income.

As long as the police is as corrupt as they are laws mean not much here in Thailand.

I Live near khon kaen,in a village about 30 kliks away.Right opposite our house is a small group of 4 houses.I can walk through the garden to get to my local shop. There is a put up shelter rather like a bus shelter we used to have in the UK.The women who live in this small grouping of houses are there every day playing cards,I would say up to 6 women playing and 4/6 standing round watching or waiting to get a place at the table.

Now,one day i stopped to watch.I dont know the game they play, ive never seen a game like it.I'm a kalooki player myself. On the table there was several hundred baht, and more 100 baht notes were continuously added to it.When one woman got the hand she wanted, she laid off on all the other hands and scooped the pot.

I know, for a fact that one of the women has a husband in the police force.

I know that some women have serious gambling problems, and i just wonder what would happen if they got busted by some provincial cop making a visit.

The complaints from the locals did em in. I guess their insurance policy with the BIB did not have a clause covering this and the BIB went in and voided their business. Next time do not be so brazen and there will be a new site set up within 24 hours. These businesses depend on customer satisfaction and continuity.

I know from experience, if these small fry (in comparison to casinos) get busted, they do get charged, but the fine is minimal.

Off topic, Kalooki, what a great game.

progress? the police are out in force with road stops in pattaya. guessing they are making up for other income streams that have been reduced. saw the first breathalyzer check point on the dark side last night. seems they are offering 7000thb on the spot fines for being over the limit.

we must be counting down the months till we see real casinos opening. looks like japan may be doing it first however in an attempt to prop up their failing economy.

From my experience 3 million baht in 1000's doesn't fill a shoebox.......but I take size 10's.   Can't be to hard moving 10 million around if your in the shoe box business!
