500, 1000 Indian rupee notes

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if it's still possible to change 500 and 1000 Indian rupee notes anywhere in Bangkok?

Thanks

I guess that no one in Thailand will touch those notes with a 40 foot pole

seeing that Indian government is making them obsolete as we speak....

The only place I found that would change Rupees (technically illegal to take out of India) was SuperRich, they would be your best bet.

I hope you don't have too many as the other option is to take them to India and pay them into a local bank :(

The notes can be exchanged in India until the end of December. Therefore they still have value, it's just how much that is the unknown. Superrich will not take the notes. Why not go to the jewellery trade area of Silom road near the Holiday Inn and ask around. Lots of Indians are involved in the gem and jewellery trade and travel regularly back to India. Somebody will bound to have seized the opportunity to buy the notes at a discount price and send/take them back to India to exchange for the full value.

Try the Jewellery Trade Centre building on Silom and also the Mahesak building on Mahesak road.

Not that I have any , but what is the limit in India if you go and try and exchange them for US$ ?

and how much can you deposit in your Indian bank account (if you had one)

It must be very hard to do much traveling or business in India until this is figured out

Last time I exchanged any in India at was 20k Rupees per transaction max. And they wouldn't do any more the next day, had to go to another exchange place.
