The World Health Organisation (WHO) praised Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha for being an international role model for the benefits of exercise, while the government will set up a strategy to encourage more people to exercise regularly.

Government Spokesman Lt-General Sansern Kaewkamnerd yesterday disclosed that WHO director-general Dr Margaret Chan had applauded the Prime Minister Prayut for his project to encourage the country’s civil servants to exercise at least once a week – every Wednesday – and stated that the PM’s initiative was a good example for the other countries to follow.

This 'news' is for domestic consumption. Nobody else believes it, so don't let it concern you.

It can't be a genuine quote anyway as it doesn't include praise for the PM's leadership and expressing support for the road map and all that's being done to take the country forward.

Oh what rubbish. The junta making statements on behalf of others again.  prayuth you fool, this isnt ground breaking or a 1st.  companies and organizations have been doing this in Australia for 20+ years

"...the government will set up a strategy to encourage more people to exercise regularly. "

Let's see what the results are in a few years. My guess is that there will continue to be a steady trend towards obesity and type 2 diabetes.

Perhaps they will raise the Slushie and Slurpie machines in 7-elevens two cm. higher in order to encourage more stretching. That's about all the exercise many of today's children will be willing to do.

The department of inactive posts needs something to do

This program was already firmly established by the Queen many years ago, at 5pm all over Thailand people gather in parking lots and open spaces just to do aerobics, it's a very popular program and has nothing to do with the junta or the PM.

Good initiative by the government, now, as the peoples health improves lets see investment to create a first class affordable health service for those who are unfortunate and fall ill. Perhaps the PM could also speed up the action on the control/eradication of mosquitoes, and the associated diseases such as dengue and malaria?

They asked "Who Are You....Doo Doo"

Wasn't Wednesday sports day for many govt departments?

No she didn't.

This is the interpretation (by Sansern) of Dr Margaret Chans statement, according to The Nation:

“WHO thanks Thailand for promoting the importance of exercise and implementing the policy very quickly and it can be announced that it is the first step forward for the Bangkok Convention on exercising for a healthier world and sustainable development,"

She thanks Thailand.

No mention of The Great Defender as an individual "role model".

It is unthinkable, given the way he acquired power and his record of rights abuse, that such an organisation would say anything that seemed to legitimise him personally.

The regime however has indisputably labelled itself, once again, as one of fabrication, dissimulation and deceit.

Encourage people to exercise?

How about making pavements that you can walk on without having to be Indiana Jones or risk breaking your ankles. Sort the pavements out and encourage people to walk more. Might also help a smidgen with traffic.

Methinks I have spotted the TAT lady lower left foreground. Great form. I guess this session was mandatory for advancement.

This might have been a translation error and should have read:

"rule model"

More like "Why don't you all FFFFFade away"

And now for the next level:

WHO praising "democratic soldier that is saving Thailand from the traps of democracy" is either highly unlikely or just poor judgment.

And prosecute drivers who try and force cyclists of the road to gain an extra second

Speaking about consumption: after burning 450 calories at the aerobics they all head to the conveniently present soda-cart consuming 550 calories of refined sugar. Thainess ???

Unfortunately there is more than a grain of truth to that...

Might have been a small miss information about who that was called a role model ?

From WHO Thailand TB page

For all of us at WHO, His Majesty is an inspiration, as he should be for all other leaders. His leadership and strong commitment to public health exemplified the most fundamental principle of Health for All People, and set a high standard to which we all should strive and build upon. His Majesty was a significant role model nationally and globally in addressing the most pressing public health issues of his time.

In improving the public health of Thailand, we will all continue to serve the legacy of His Majesty, who will always be remembered not only as a champion for health, but also as the people’s King.
