Myanmar – Mahamouni (near M’Rauk-U).

After the M’Rauk-U Temple-, Pagoda- and Monastery tour I decided to go to Mahamouni, some 50 km to the north and to visit another temple.

The Temple was great but the journey was almost even more impressive. Went there with a ‘Jeep’. Almost unbelievable that we made it without problems, although there were regular stops. Water consumption was 1 liter on every 1 km and oil consumption was almost in the same range. Due to road conditions the average speed was around 20 km / hour. The views during the trip were almost medieval.

There was a lot of road construction going on as there were many holes in the road. Ladies were filling these holes with pebbles. No machines were involved.

Myanmar – Mahamouni (near M’Rauk-U).

Everywhere in Myanmar you can see (usually somewhat older) people chewing on a red substance. This is called Paan and is a preparation combining betel leaf with areca nut and sometimes also with tobacco. It is chewed for its stimulant and psychoactive effects. After chewing it is either spat out or swallowed.

Here are some pictures of the preparation.

And with this picture I would like to conclude my series of impressions of the Mahamuni Paya- and Wethali Temples. I hope you enjoyed.
