PATTAYA: -- At 1.30am, on the morning of November 30, Pattaya police received reports of a shooting and bombing in Pattaya.

Twenty-three-year old Mr Chayin Naebpimai reported to Nongprue police that he had stopped at the side of the road, close to the International School on Route 36, when a group of thirty and forty motorcycles gathered around him.

Some took cover behind his car whilst others began shooting at another group of men on the far side of the road. At one point one threw what appeared to be a home-made bomb which exploded and shattered glass.

Mr Chayin said that he and his friend hurried away quickly but in the panic of the situation he drove straight into a ditch.

He said he called the police but that nobody came to help or take his statement. Eventually some friends appeared and helped to pull the car from the ditch.

Afterwards Mr Chayin says he went to the Nongprue police station to report the incident but it was closed and he had to telephone Pattaya police to make a statement.

Sad that innocent bystanders get caught up in this sort of thing but not at all surprised.

Have phoned the police many times to report these gangs for racing and intimidating road users during evenings, not late at night. Invariably the response is that the police cannot do anything, even though many of the bikers have no number plates. Instead of charging them for this, they are ignored as "taking things further would be pointless".

Welcome to law abiding Thailand, stay indoors.

Should've reported at 7-11.....they're open 24 hours.

Forget about mini Siam and floating market tourist traps: make a wild west attraction, get the gangs in there to fight for amusement. The cops will eventually show up.... to collect some envelopes natch. Everybody happy.

Am I missing something? A guy drove his car into a ditch, and the rest of the story may or may not be true. Maybe the bombs and bullets story is just to save face for driving into a ditch ????

Lets that sink in

Can happen even in the high rent districts:

LONDON -- Buckingham Palace guards ignored a burglar alarm and failed to understand a personal plea for help from Queen Elizabeth II when she was faced with a prowler in her bedchambers, government officials and news reports said today.

'The queen chose her words carefully, trying to warn the officers without alarming the man, who sat on the bed clutching a broken glass ashtray,' the London Daily Telegraph reported, citing palace sources.

But when nothing happened after 10 minutes, the queen summoned a chambermaid, who in turn called for the footman who captured Fagan. Eight minutes later the police arrived.

It is possible that he went to the old Nongprue police station which could have indeed been closed instead of the new Nongprue police station which is in a different location. Who knows ?
