‘Assembly ban may hinder poll preparations’

By THE SUNDAY NATION

BANGKOK:-- KEY PHEU THAI Party figure Sudarat Keyuraphan said yesterday she was convinced that the government would not allow assembly by political parties, given that they wanted to control politicians – but they could not quash the profound relationship between politicians and the people.

“No problem. And it is no use to cry out for [the junta’s ban on political assembly to be lifted],” Sudarat said yesterday as she joined fellow politicians selling rice as part of a campaign to help farmers following the paddy price crisis.

I predict 2017 October headlines.

Political parties complain, not enough time to prepare for elections, therefore the government will extend the election date to late  2018 to be fair to all parties.

Regardless of the political spin Prayut may like to place on it,  the whole political process in Thailand is a shame, on one hand you have a strict LM law which indirectly keeps the military in power, and a leader who is above politics and has no input into the executive power,  if this was to change and a new age of enlightenment happened in Thailand,  this would negate the power away from the Military, I rest my case............................................:coffee1:

Of course there will be no lifting of the assembly rule.....there is no need for it to be revoked..well, not in the near future as the army will continue well beyond 2017....

Past politicians will need to secure other types of work.....they won't be allowed to contest elections,..until...when the economy collapses completely, as has been the case with past AJs trying to run the show....then things will undoubtably return to the old insane cycle.

We were told that the restriction on political activity was because the situitation was 'unstable'.  So, after 2 and a half years in power, is the situitation still 'unstable'?

If so, then the military have failed miserably.  But it really has nothing to do with stabiity, it has everything to do with power and control.  That, and the end of democracy in Thailand.

Absolutely correct. Thailand is light years away from anything approaching an open democracy. They should look to Burma for an example!!!!
