I have a car bought on Finance from AIG, so technically, they own it until i have paid it off.

Is it possible for me to take it across borders as i am obviously not in posession of the blue book, just a copy of it?

You need a letter from the vehicle's owner (the finance company), permitting you to take the vehicle out of the country.

Just to follow up on this a bit: I was wondering if someone could comment on exactly what is required to, say, take a driving trip from Thailand across to Malaysia. I own the car and have the "blue book". My insurance carrier tells me that they can sell me an add on to cover insurance.

I suppose my question is: what is involved with Thai and Malaysian Customs?

so how does this work with rental cars? Just out of curiosity

J

Not unless the owner of the vehicle - the rental or finance company - provides written approval for you to take the vehicle out of the country.
