Can people please advise of the 'cool' arty areas of Thailand? e.g. Where do the musicians, poets & painters live?

I've heard Koh Pangnan is more 'druggy' than artistic. I'm sure you guys have opinions on this subject.

Thanks in advance,

Some places in Bangkok  would possibly be the closed you get to this idea of Bohemianism.

Ko Kret nearby has some a quite thriving---non-gentrified--scene of unconventional arty lifestyles surrounding the mirco-breweries there. People reciting French existentialists  or the likes have not been seen though.

They dress badly everywhere in thailand, if that's what you mean.

Any creativity is spent acquiring things differently.

Thanks for the replies.

Not so much dressing badly as people who prefer live music & conversation etc over tv.

Will check out Ko Kret soon. Hanoi tomorrow!

Many thanks

Wrong country, it's all mongerers here :giggle:. Ubud in Bali would be my choice for rubbing shoulders with that type. Might be a few mincing about in the CMai/CRai areas though.

Mincing About ??? Nice choice of words....

You might check out the Chinatown / Pom Prap area. Gallery/bars like Soi Sauce Factory, 23 Bar and Cho Why are down there.  On Soi Nana (NOT the Nana off of Sukhumvit) there are some bars and galleries that cater to the artsy Thai & expat crowd.

But really there's nothing like you might find in other cities. It's all spread out, if you start searching for galleries, and get on their Facebook or other groups you'll start seeing the openings and events.

Not Boho but arty-ish, fairly trendy place in bkk is seacon square/ rod fai train market and loads of music on offer mixing with loads of vintage style shops, markets for food and clothing and a few shops selling arty stuff. worth a visit.

preference to live music and conversation rather than TV and canned music is quite common in/around BKK

in my experience, there are numerous joints doing that

Koh Kret? Interesting place if you drag yourself away from the Made in China/Taiwan market, Bohemian? Hardly.
