BANGKOK: -- A woman posted pictures and a story about her husband's leg problems online reported sanook.com

Thapatch Kaewvaen  said on Facebook that her husband had a problem with an infection on his leg that seemed quite minor.

But after a few weeks - and when self treatment at a pharmacy failed -  his leg had swollen up from the foot to the knee.

Doctors rushed to check what was the problem and he was found to have two blood clots that could have caused death.Doctors were not sure what had caused the original problem but think it is to do with excessive sugar in the diet from soft drinks and sweets and is also as a result of poor circulation due to certain seating positions.

Then as professionsal they shouldn't make any diagnosis as to the cause of the problem, especially without knowing the patient's medical history, blood analysis, ultrasound or CT scan, etc. Furthermore, clotting in one area of the body may lead to undetected clotting in other areas, leading to an incompete diagnosis for treatment.

Like when anyone in authority or knowledge here says anything - it's meaningless without proper education. Even in the West people are too stupid and deluded to understand. Everyone knows that eating well is good for you. Problem is that we like the bad food. It's like we think it's unfair we can't eat what we want in life so we do it anyway.

I have an older expat friend who was in hospital. The guy simply doesn't take care of himself. He was shocked to be in such poor health. Thinks he's been dealt a bad hand. After coming out of hospital and eating healthily for maybe 2 weeks, he's back to his old lifestyle. Try telling him what he's doing will kill him, and he just gets angry like you're negative. I don't see him now 'cos I don't wanna sit around and watch him kill himself. He really doesn't get it.

Anyway, sugar is seriously bad stuff. Very addictive and bad for you. But because it's socially acceptable to damage your body with sugar, and not with things like drugs, people will keep doing it.

being a medical doctor involves memorization...

over time this can fade or get jumbled around a bit unless one does what most professions also require [but with other skills and/or particular personal traits as well, usually].....  such as computer programmers... literacy....

which is more than copying written symbols... or converting them to and from their assigned spoken sounds... just a bit more....

and a weekly habit... if not a daily one.. at that...

and to make it worse, it's an activity that is quite ubiquitous amongst some circles.... but some others..... not!

Going to call BS on this story and just say Google it.

While excessive sugar is an issue. And mostly Post event. Other problems out weigh it by far. Somebody just thought they would pick a favorite dead horse and kick it.

Very true, but we all take a lot of known risks of our own choice and not all of us want to live to be 90. When people die I feel a bit jealous of them as they will never have to worry about dying again. I live my life to the fullest I can given my bad habits and all. I feel some are living in a test tube and if thats what they like I'm happy for them.

The things that make food taste good are all bad for us, and addictive, except in very small quantities.  How many recipes have as their final instruction, "add butter/olive oil/salt/sugar to taste"??

I have a friend who believes that McDonalds have the perfect formula/percentages of fat, salt and sugar to make their products addictive, and his kids have never had any fast food....ever.  when his friends say they're taking their kids to Maccas as a treat, he tells the parents they're abusing their kids, not treating them.

My first thought. Diabetes.

Doctor Google: "Diabetes increases the risk of plaque buildup in the arteries, which can cause dangerous blood clots. Nearly 80 percent of people who have diabetes will eventually die of clot-related causes."

Doctor Thailand: ..... not sure .......excessive sugar? ....... poor circulation due to certain seating positions?

And yes, excessive sugar + other risk factors for diabetics can result in poor circulation.  atherosclerosis.

I think this may just be a poor bit of copy. "Doctors rushed to check what was the problem.." Rushed". I doubt it.

I struggle to use the word journalism, but maybe somethings are lost in translation.

A combination of the wrong diet and sitting too much is very very bad for you.

I had a blood clot myself in the leg after sitting for 5 hours.  Next day I went straight to the hospital . I learned my lesson , do daily activities and avoid fatty food and too much sugar.

And long air flights can give you a blood clot. Happened to my ex. lucky it didn't kill her. The doctors put her on blood thinners. Get up and move around and wear compression socks.

here's some new advice...

sleepiness and taking naps is a sign of, and is caused by..... cholesterol.

Perhaps an aspirin a day to also thin the blood might help you.

I take one every day on top of a blood pressure pill and a cholesterol pill before bed, post heart attack 2008 at age 47, not over weight, fit, blood pressure was normal, although the bad cholesterol was hovering around 6, not enough to concern my GP, however I ended up with a clot in my left anterior descending artery which brought on a heart attack, it doesn't discriminate I am told, an interesting comment from the Cardiologist after he inserted a single stent; I have seen them as young as 35 hit the tarmac, never to get up again, your 47, you made it, you will keep going for another 20-30 maybe more years, change jobs, avoid stress, which we cannot measure.

I took his advise some 7 years later and retired, the only stress I have now is myself to deal with 555
