Residency Cert / Driving License

Featured Replies

Hi,

Wife and I have a 12 month Retirement Non Immi (o) Visa.

With that is it possible to obtain a Residency Cert as mentioned in this Forum?

After a number of false starts I am now looking to stay for most if not all of the year here - so figure a Thai Driving License would be a good idea.

If so where do I go to get the whole sequence started is it Immigration Office - Promenada?

Best Rgds.

Look through the pinned topic, Driving License Procedures.

Thnxs for reply - I must check out if other implications of having a Residency Cert - not just for obtaining Drivinh License.

Obtain residency certificate at Promenada.

One month to process and free or, shop besides immigration 500 baht pickup next day.

Regards

You can also may obtain a suitable residency certificate at your embassy/consulate although the fees vary (the US Consulate charges $50.00, I'm told, whereas a Swedish friend told me he picked one up at his honorary consulate here in CM the other day and the cost was 500 baht).

To buy a motor vehicle, motorbike or car, one needs the residency certificate issued by Imm. Prom. as well as a letter from a doctor stating one has the ability to drive a vehicle. Both forms are valid for only 30 days.

Someone must have forgotten to tell the Honda salesperson about the requirements. I bought a new bike using my passport with the retirement visa and my Thai motorcycle driving license. And a wad of cash. It took longer to mount the box on the back than to do the paperwork. On the other hand, it's been more than two weeks and I still don't have the number plate or green book.
