PATTAYA: -- Pattaya police have named the man in diving gear found floating in the sea off Koh Larn last week.

They said he is US citizen Frank Thomas, 52. Mr Thomas came to Thailand in 2013 and he has a Thai wife.

They have not ruled out murder.

They said he was on holiday in Koh Larn and was harpooning fish in the sea.

He was found with a wound to his neck.

Police are anxious to speak to his wife who was not with him on the trip to Koh Larn.

Pattaya police are working on two theories - murder or that he killed himself, reported Thai News Agency.

Considering the original report said his throat had been slashed, suicide would seem to be a very unlikely prognosis one would think.

But it's an easy out for the BIB...they don't stand to make any money from this case unfortunately.

Well someone with scuba and harpooning experience....is it likely one could accidently (or purposely) wound your own neck with one of these  things?

Columbo would say that his harpie wife hired some goon to tag along on the boat trip, and bump him off.   i would be inclined to agree with columbo.

And yet there was another American who slashed his own throat in Rawai last week so not following your logic.  I'll grant you that slashing your own throat while scuba diving is less common.

suicide committed by a special method ?? Not easy to cut your own throat, but can be done. The police can look for the knife which would be below where his body was found if he did indeed kill himself.

Death by having your throat cut is a slow death about 4 to 5 minutes so he would have suffered

I am not a doctor, but I watch them on TV. So...if there is water in the lungs, he aspirated water (see how I used the big technical word here) and therefore probably died in the water, with his wound. A little water in the lungs, he was likely killed and then dumped. If they bother with an autopsy they might find this clue first.

It would depend on the severity of the wound.  A substantial cut would result In a loss of blood pressure, and the brain would stop functioning very quickly, so he'd be brain dead, and loss of consciousness would result, but It may take a minute or so for his hreart to stop beating..  A small cut would take longer.

Some who commit suicide want a painful death to 'punish' those they perceive/ believe to be the cause of their grief.

I love the way they post pictures without explanation.

The one on the right. Is that supposed to be the wife withdrawing money from a bank or something?
