Police to seek arrest warrants for 51 police entrance exam cheaters

BANGKOK: -- Police will on Wednesday seek court’s warrants for the arrest of 51 mostly medical and engineering students suspected to be involved in the entrance examination cheating for enrollment into police academy for non-commissioned officers in metropolitan area.

The 51 suspects who were said to be the “cream” of university students face charge of being members of an illegal organization in accordance with Section 209 of the Criminal Code and charge of violating the Computer Crime Act.

Over 500 people were alleged to be involved in the cheating. They are divided into three groups: the cheat plotters; the “hired” examination candidates who sat the test and allowed their test papers to be copied by the real candidates and the candidates who paid the plotters to get test answers from the “hired” candidates.

A complaint has been lodged with Paholyothin police by Pol Col Uthen Nuipin, an examination supervisor, against a municipal policeman attached to the City Hall, Mr Jirapote Plaiduang, who allegedly schemed the cheat and hired medical and engineering students to sit the test in order to help the candidates in the written test.

It was reported that the gang charged candidates 500,000 baht per head for its fraudulent service to help them pass the examination.

Official confesses to running corrupt exam service for applicants: Sanit

A BANGKOK Thesakij city regulation enforcement officer surrendered to police yesterday and confessed to arranging cheating during the police entrance exams last month, city police chief Pol Lt-General Sanit Mahathaworn said.

The move followed a complaint by Metropolitan Police Bureau’s Training Centre chief Pol Colonel Uthen Nuiphin on Sunday about Pathumwan-based Thesakij officer Jiraphot Plaidoung and 346 applicants seeking to be police. Another 178 applicants are expected to face a similar complaint soon.

Sanit said that during a one-hour interrogation, Jiraphot admitted he had offered to facilitate cheating on entrance exams to people who were attending tutorial schools in Pathumwan to qualify as police and state officials. He said he had been operating the scheme for about a year, adding that many such cheating groups operate in Thailand, according to police.

What about arresting the 400 police (aka the "sour cream" of the police force) who paid for the cheating "service" ?

I believe these 51 unlucky souls were out of bribe money to pay to be kept off the warrant list. Remember these are non-commissioned guys. The 500,000 they paid was probably borrowed money.

The officers relatives and cronies will all be protected and probably do not even have to be bothered with the inconvenience of taking such an exam.

This bit caught my attention;

"and hired medical and engineering students to sit the test in order to help the candidates in the written test."

It seems like the candidates couldn't understand the questions without some help.

Or.

Only doctors and engineers are clever enough to be police.

They probably are the cream of Thai university students.....

but how can they be charged with being members of an illegal organisation? They never actually joined the police force - they were just faking it.

oh wait...I get it...

Taught english in 3 schools over a span of five years from grades 5 and up. I used to get such a laugh out of the cheating. I ended up accepting it as part of Thai culture even though it got to be a bit frustrating (and humiliating when they thought they could pull one over on the teacher.) Nothing ever came of it with the kids so why would it be any different with the big kids. No offence as I accepted this cheating a long time ago as normal here in Thailand

I think that the cheating involved applicants for the Police NCO Academy paying the students to sit the exam for them. No doubt the students received only a fraction of the money paid, the bulk probably remained with the Academy authorities. Still they will be the ones facing arrest....

Senior Officials + 500,000 Baht + 500 alleged Cheaters = 51 warrants

What is wrong with this math?

And now we know what kind of core values (honesty - integrity) it takes to be a policeman in Thailand - NONE!

No wonder Amazing Thailand is a third world country, with third world values.

Most likely because they forgot to pay the "Special Police Examination Fee". It is one thing to cheat on the exam. It is another, and a more serious issue, to cheat those giving the exam.
