Big Warning in Red.

Featured Replies

Every so often a big sign printed in red in a box about 4''+4ins at the bottom right hand side of my screen gives me a warning that something has crashed.

It warns that my computer is in danger, I tried to explain it to the local computer engineer, but he does not speak much English.

This has been going on for months, and nothing bad has happened. Anyone else experience this? Do I have anything to worry about?

More details would be useful.

Can you post a screenshot?

I do not know how to post screen shots, I have not learned as I never seem to need to. I only learn how to do things that I do regularly, like putting up videos on the Pub Forum, downloading movies and music and putting them into files, etc, etc.

I have learned so much, but then forget them as I hardly ever use them.

Yes, I always scan with windows defender, and everything is always clear. but I will download your link.

If you have a Microsoft OS, try looking for  built-in 'Snipping Tool' that allows you to capture a window or draw a box around something visible on your display you want to copy or save.

Click on the start button bottom left - all programs - Accessories:-

@possum1931  On the keyboard usually somewhere near the numbers pad is a "Screen Print" key. it could be "Print Screen" or "PrtSc" or something similar.

When the Red Box is on the screen hit the 'Screen Print" button. Nothing appears to have happened but in fact a copy of the whole screen has been saved to Clipboard.

To get the picture you have to "Paste" and "Save" it somewhere, any photo editing program should do but I usually use "Paint" that comes with M$.

You can then upload the ScreenShot here for us all to see and hopefully get some useful advice.

That warning don't happen to also recommend clicking something in the warning box/go to a certain website to fix the issue does it?   If so, it could be malware just trying to get you to download/install/buy a certain program.   A snapshot/picture of the image would help greatly.

Thanks a lot, but I am not technically savvy, I would need someone to show me how to do it, and I am the only farang in the village, I think it is something to do with malware, I took a posters advice and downloaded malware protection, then scanned the computer, there was a lot of threats, and I quarantined them all, if that red thing comes back I will take a proper note and PM you if that's ok.

I know Pib, if you read previous post from Daffy D.

Since you said  you run MS Windows Defender as your antivirus protection and malware detection programs you downloaded did detected a lot of threats, you might want to consider switching from Defender.  It does seem to rate not-so-good in malware blocking.

If printing a screen shot is hard work you could just take a photo on your phone of the issue in future. Assuming it's a smartphone. You can then upload easily via your phone or email yourself the image and upload that way.

Defender comes with Windows 10, you cannot get rid of it. A few years ago I had two anti virus protections, and it gave me all sorts of problems, I wonder how many people with Windows 10 also have another anti virus protection.

In Widows 10, if you download a different anti-virus Windows Defender automatically turns itself off.

Have you had any luck getting an alternative to Windows Firewall working in Windows 10?  I tried and couldn't make it happen (it was a few months ago, I think I tried ZoneAlarm).

The OP should download and install SnapaShot

It is one of the easiest screen capture utils about.

FWIW, in addition to Defender, I run AVG antivirus free and Malwarebytes paid on my family PC's.

For the work laptop, it's ESET antivirus paid and Malwarebytes paid. Defender is running but I don't make a point of keeping it current.

Dude

When the warning pops up, press prntscr printscreen.

Open up Paint or any graphics program

Paste Ctrl + V

Never run to active AV programs such as Norton and McAfee. One plus Win Defender should not be an issue. You should be able to turn Defender off.

To keep a PC clean you'll need to run half dozen programs all doing something a bit different or a bit better than the next.

Most anti malware doesn't come close to picking up the real nasty stuff.
