Mate is in need of a visa ME.. Married and has money but extensions are not possible due to his travel (in and out weekly to 10 days, on call, unpredictable).

Hes looking to go the HCMC ideally or PP secondly.

Does he need 400k bank book for a multiple entry in either ??

Not sure about HCMC I can only recall 2nd hand reports of somebody getting one there. PP is a no go.

Best is Savannakhet Laos that asks for no financial proof. Or Penang that wants to see 400k in the bank or proof of income.

He wants to go on a fly in fly out city break (with bars and birds) so wont take my advice to go to savannakhet.

If PP is out leaves HCMC in his list.

Anyone report experience ??

No recent experience of Non O for spouse of wife, but HCMC is pretty good at following their stated rules. (That I do know based on recent experience.) According to http://www.thaiembassy.org/hochiminh/en/services/2886/46902-Non-Immigrant-Visa-"O"---Accompanying-Th.html, multiple entry Non O for spouse of Thai nationals is issued there, and the requirements (which will need to be followed exactly) are listed.

If you do not get more specific advice from someone else, I would say it is worth the risk of trying for one there.

Pretty surprised given its location and ease of connection theres not more reports.

I was warned a local guarantor may be needed (viet one not a Thai one) to apply there.. Anyone heard that ??

Hi,  I have a Thai wife and have been renewing my non-O marriage visa every year for the past 15 years at the Thai Consulate in Portland Oregon since we got married. This time when I went back for the holidays I found they could no longer issue the multi-entry visa, and I would have to go to Los Angles to do it. I had no time to do that.

Ubonjoe, you seem to know the Savannakhet visa run the best, can you please help me?

I have a current certified copy of our wedding certificate from the county in Oregon where we were married, and current Thai notarized copies of my  wife's id and passport which was always enough for the consulate in Oregon. Is that enough documentation for Savannakhet?

I live in Bangkok. How much time should I plan on to make the trek to Savannakhet? Any suggestions on the quickest way to get there? I've been to Vientiane before and done the Lao visa on arrival there, is it the same at border near Savannakhet?

Sorry for all the questions, I know most have been answered somewhere here on the forum but I'm not that good at searching out the previous answers to these questions or the most up to date info.

Thanks for any info you can provide!

They will accept a certified copy of your marriage certificate and copy of it signed by you. It would be best to have the original to show. You only need copies of your wife's house book registry and ID card.signed by her.

The easy way to get to Savannakhet is to use a fly/ride service to Mukdahan. Nok Air has the most options. http://nokair.com/content/en/destinations/fly-n-ride/Ubon-Ratchathani-mukdahan.aspx

Using the fly/ride service you will need to spend 2 nights in Savannakhet or one night in Mukdahan and cross over to Savannakhet early morning to do the application by 11 am stay the night there to pick up your passport the next afternoon at 2 pm.

You  will get a Lao visa on arrival at the bridge for a fee of $35 US or 1500 baht. The office closes at 6 pm.

I was just reading another post saying the Thai Consulate is also asking for a letter from my wife requesting that I be allowed to stay. That was never required at the other consulate in Oregon. Can you provide some guidelines for this letter? Addressed to whom? Does it need to be notarized in Thailand? Written in Thai? Translated into English?

Savannakhet does not ask for it.

Any suggestions as to where to spend the night in Savannakhet or Mukdahan? I'm too old to stay at a backpacker's hostel...

You might want to look at the last few pages of this long topic for info.

Air Asia drop guests at a nice hotel on the river front, think it's called the Riverview or something similar.

Any ideas on who might need to certify for HCMC applications?

From the form as below

Certified copy of Thai spouse’s ID card
Certified copy of house registration book

RIVERFRONT HOTEL MUKDAHAN is the AIRASIA dropoff. A good clean hotel, great buffet breakfast (or it was last time I was there)

Avalon residence in Savannakhet, walking distance to consulate.

Nightlife, couple of bars, restaurants, open air cafes near the church at the back of Lin's Cafe

I think all they want is your wife's original signature on the copies, nothing very onerous.

Don't know if I'm in the correct place here, but on penang agents. I'm there, went first to Jim's place, had my Embassy approved proof of income. Jim said I wouldn't get a non immigrant visa but he'd try. Next day went to Banana gh,they wouldn't even look at my proof of income,Jim did,but both said I must have 800,000thb in a Thai bank. They knew I wanted it for retirement extension. I went myself to Thai consulate and today picked up my single entry. No problems and very helpful staff.
