How could you suppose Thais know Trump ?

thai people barely care about thai politics....  so you can imagine how much they would care about another countries politics.

After the election a few thai people asked me about trump becoming president..... let's just say they knew absolutely nothing about what trump represents and were mainly asking out of a courtesy because they knew i am a US citizen.

Thailand's laws wouldn't allow such demonstrations, so it's a bit of a silly question to begin with.

Just hand some signs to the folks waiting in line for a visa.

Instant protest at the Embassy, complete with photo ops.  Who in America would know any different when it's shown on CNN?

Edit:  Forgot to add, if you want to triple the crowd, give away Starbucks discount coupons one day a week and make sure the film crew is there on that day.  I've never seen coffee lines anything like a Thai Starbucks on discount day...

To the LIBTARDS living in Thailand: First, I want to apologize to Thailand for your presence there.    What a pitiful pampered bunch of fools who would begin to feel so comfortable living in their fairyland bubble in a foreign country that they can think they have the right to inflict there petty immature disappointments upon the Thai people by marching down Thai streets bellowing and mewling about something the Thais could not care less about.  How arrogant can you be?  You people are nothing less than a total embarrassment of our country.  If you don't like America, you should keep your damn mouths shut and hide your angry faces.  I can tell you that there were as many people disappointed with the outgoing gang in Washington as there are with the incoming.  But, those people respect and defend our Constitution, accept lawful election outcomes and try very hard not to embarrass the land and people who gave them everything... including their names.

So, please... GROW UP and SHUT UP!

Since most of the world has grown to hate America and it's current policies, perhaps it would be in the best interest of those complainers to keep their mouth shut and stay home. Maybe the rest of the world is looking forward to a change in America? (Yes, I am American). :whistling:

I am of the same mind I am not American and feel Trump is the new order and about time someone with enough guts stood up and took the challenge to make the changes .

it has to do with the American community in Thailand that want the world to know that not all of us Americans support Trump

Given that he has the lowest approval rating of any president elect and that the candidate who "lost" got three million more votes than he did, that should be abundantly clear.

I would rather have almost anyone other than him as president ... although Hillary was no bargain either ... but this sort of protest serves no useful purpose other than to make the protesters feel self-important.

A bunch of loud obnoxious Americans prancing about in Bangkok to protest a loud obnoxious new president won't show the world what you think it will. He's the president for 4 years. We more or less survived Bush so we can manage this.

The Brits had buyers' remorse after opting for Brexit and we Americans will soon learn what a mistake we allowed to happen without the embarrassment of protests in Bangkok. We'll endure.

PS. There may be small groups of Americans in Thailand who cling to each other for reasons apparent only to themselves, but there is no American community here. For some of us one of joys of living in Thailand is not being surrounded by other Americans.

Well said!!! It is such a pleasure not to be bombarded with the political rhetoric from both sides, it's freakin exhausting. When I was back in the States in September, I couldn't wait to leave. I get absolutely sick from people who obsess about politics and this utter nonsense about the election. Get a life, get a hobby, get a beer!!!

The more people moan about Trump, the more I will support him for now. I just find it amazing that people who protest against fascism can't accept a democratic election. I'm no Trump supporter but he won so we have to give him a chance. Just out of interest, was there any protesting when Obama made president? If there was I never heard of it at all.

If there is it would be illegal as it breaks the 5 person assembly rule - unless the junta approves it of course.

And of course the junta would never approve it...repressive fascists tend to stick together and support each other.

I don't know why you would want to waste your time protesting a democratically elected President, but if I hear of a protest I will let you know (I imagine most people would prefer to just get on with their  lives though).

Do people REALLY come to Thailand to take part in electoral reform demonstrations?

I have never read anything so silly, chill out, sip a cold one and let the world get on with its business.

The Junta here would probably just be bemused at the idea of a street protest here about electoral reform in another country and use it as a PR exercise about the folly of electoral politics - that is after they have picked themselves up of the floor after being told that it is down to a 220 odd year old constitution that nobody has considered rewriting.

Oh c'mon. Don't you know democracy is only fun if you get what YOU want.

You are saying that the Thai Junta would not approve of demonstrations against Trump because they support him ?

The real reason is that ALL demonstrations are now banned in Thailand, nothing to do with what cause they are demonstrating about

"I don't know why you would want to waste your time protesting a democratically elected President"

It's a wingnut thing.  'Would surely be more peaceful than the protest events back in the states though.

I do feel re-assured to know that within twenty four hours of Donald Trump being inaugurated as the 45th president of the USA, people will be taking to the streets in many of the major cities of the world. With a Republican majority in both houses and the Democrats in disarray someone has to speak for the opposition. From the Civil Rights movement to the Vietnam War and the protection of the environment, demonstrators and demonstrations have shown the power of their influence.

Whether there is a demonstration of any kind in Bangkok and if so whether it will be allowed remains to be seen.   But the law forbidding gatherings of more than five people will remain in force until people appear on the streets again and again in order to show that such a piece of legislation has no place in any enlightened society that claims to understand the meaning of the word democracy.

Thailand doesnt claim to be a democracy though .

The reason why protests are banned in Thailand is because opposition Partys would not accept defeat in elections .

Whichever side won, the losers would be on the streets protesting .

You are just the same as Thais, who will not accept democratic elections results

A big reason to protest trump (Putin lover) is that his election represents a move from liberal American democracy to "democracies" more like Thailand and Russia. So, yes, protest in Thailand about that in current conditions is a non starter. But we can feel solidarity with the massive protests about to happen in the U.S.
