BANGKOK, 20 January 2016 (NNT) – The Prime Minister has discussed with the British Ambassador to Thailand, emphasizing on the good relationship between the two countries.

British Ambassador to Thailand H.E. Brian John Davidson paid a courtesy call to Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on the occasion of taking his new office. The Thai premier thanked the United Kingdom for expressing grief over the passing of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

The British Ambassador reiterated the long-standing relationship between Thailand and the United Kingdom at all levels, and said that the United Kingdom will continue to strengthen its relationship and seek new opportunities for mutual cooperation between both countries.

The ambassador said he understood the current political situation in Thailand and that he was aware the true intentions of the Thai government, which is stated in detail in the roadmap.

The Ambassador said he understood the situation in Thailand and the intention of the government, as made clear by the roadmap ....

This is of course all reported/ indirect speech - probably invented by the Thais, who love to place words into the mouths of foreign dignitaries.

On the other hand, the British Government is so spineless and collaborationist in regard to Thailand and its heinous crimes (remember the British police and Koh Tao?) that it is quite possible that the Ambassador really did say these things.

The days of moral principle and fearlessness in the face of evil are long gone - if indeed they ever existed ...

Prayuth's version to the media. The ambassador understands the militarys true intentions.

The UK ambassador's version to the UK media. Prayuth's a total fruit cake and mass producer of buffalo dung.

a long standing relationship between both the uk and thailand at all levels.

should start with treating uk.expats living in thailand the same way as the uk.treats thais living in the uk. at the same LEVELS.

If they were to do that, particularly with regard to conditions to be be met for granting a visa and permission to remain in the country, then life here for many of us would be made very much more difficult.

Mind you I suppose you would be able to have your name on the title deeds for your house, farm, truck etc...

Indeed, but he is, as a diplomat, unlikely to make public just what ad how he understands.

His reports back to the UK foreign office (I wonder if they still use telegrams) are I should imagine rather more specific.

i dont understand when you say life here for many of us would be MADE MORE DIFFICULT.

my wife never had to visit immigration in over 20yrs.in the uk.

she was able to buy a house and the land.

and most of all she was treated with RESPECT.

and never had to pay double for anything.

please explain.

I think he means it's easier to stay here, just by depositing 800,000 bt you can stay for 12 months.

i think you might have miss understood jag.my wife never had to deposit ONE PENNY in the uk for over 20yrs.

i have to show around 19,000gbp to stay here.thats for 1yr.

a lot of us oldies would surely pay some sort of fee for the privilage of living here, without having to bow 5times a yr.to immigration.

not sure where those police red boxes are,but there is one 50yds.down the rd.and i see the.bib.regular come and check.

so a few bikes or BMW's for immigration staff would cut out a lot of sore bums.

Agreed, for your wife, as the spouse of a UK national, entry to and residence to the UK is relatively easy.

For a Thai national,  not married to a UK national getting a visa to enter and remain in the UK is significantly more difficult than it is for a UK national to get a visa to enter and remain in Thailand.

why i feel so passionate regarding immigration giving us some give and not all take, was because last yr.i had a mini stroke and a seizer.

doctors at hospital told the wife i should be carefull driving.i have had the car 5yrs.come august and there is only 3,500 on the clock.so its only back and fo to immigration that its used for.

i asked immigration could i do my 90day report by post NO you will have to get your wife to do it.a 4hr.round trip.

so its pay pay pay all the way with no help on the way.

i dont think my wife wouldnt be bothered if she said lets go back to the uk.[brit.citz.]

but the weather would kill me.

"The ambassador said he understood the current political situation in Thailand and that he was aware the TRUE intentions of the Thai government, which is stated in detail in the roadmap" is what the article says.

This can be taken in two ways. It could be toadying or it could just as easily be 'Oh, we know what you lot are up to, sunshine...'

Agree with that. I know a degree educated lady, very good career, property owner, and well qualified. Her relation was married for many years to a British diplomat. She was turned down, seemingly because she was single and they thought she might be going specifically husband hunting.

And that was when the Embassy had British immigration entry clearance officers.

Yeah yeah and I are the best thing that ever sat in the chair. And everything's on course. Preecha has a few more properties to buy. I have plenty already. Really where at the cream stage. It's sweeter than I ever imagined. BUT Your foreign media are making it harder for me to maneuver. I have had to go hard on my own media. Can you do anything to help.

Hold your horses.......

Quite possible you are not a connoisseur of the art of diplomatic speak.

The ambassador expressed his understanding, which means just that, he understands.

Which does not necessarily mean he agrees with it.

Any other answer might be constructed as interfering in internal politics.

Not done......

Of course if you belong to a special religion, and come in hanging on the back of a lorry claim asylum the moment your feet touch UK soil, you'll be welcomed with residant status no problems, try and do everything legally then every obstacle possible will swing into action!

Certainly seems that way. And some so called "entertainers" openly support that. Sad.
